I have a 2019 V4 base model and the itch to try some club racing, and need to swap out my OEM coolant (ENI Agip Permanent Spezial antifreeze; the pink stuff).
Race org requirements as follows:
CVMA: Only water, Water Wetter and Cool Aid are allowed as coolant.
WERA: Water cooled engines may use plain water, or water with Redline (or similar product, call WERA for verification) cooling system rust and corrosion inhibitor at 0.5 ounces per quart of plain water concentration, Silkolene Pro CCA (Corrosion Control Additive) and Royal Purple Purple Ice are also allowed. ALL glycol based antifreezes are prohibited.
My trusted Ducati shop strongly advised me to NOT use anything other than the OEM coolant, or risk quick corrosion problems. That said, it's not my plan for this bike to last forever (I'll probably crash it before my water pump rusts out), but I also want to make informed decisions.
Currently, I am considering Maxima Cool-Aide as a good solution. I reached out to the company and they advised to use the concentrate at 5% with distilled water, versus their 3% ready-to-use mixture. Also, they mentioned that measuring the pH at install and periodically might be a good way to know when it degrades and should be changed. Initially, I was thinking to swap it out every 6 months, given that I'd do about 6-9 track days in that time. They said that's probably a good starting point to fight against corrosion.
My questions to my favorite forum of all time: Does anyone have experience or data running race-approved coolants? Anyone use Maxima Cool-Aide? Any recommendations whatsoever?
Thanks!
