Greetings, Diavelistas...
I have designed a custom carbon fiber windscreen for the Diavel. I am posting pix here to see what kind of interest there might be in purchasing such a product. I have partnered with a well-regarded manufacturer of "real" carbon fiber parts with the capability of compression molding the pieces, which is really the best way to do this. The costs of CNC machining the dies can only be contemplated if there is enough interest from our Diavel community to justify the investment.
My inspiration for this project stemmed from my experience with the somewhat small windscreen that was "integrated" with the factory Zumo 390 GPS, as installed by the dealer. I had purchased my 2015 Carbon last August, when there was very little available for the Gen.2 Diavels. I believe they used the Gen.1 screen adapter in concert with the GPS, and sourced a very nice little polycarbonate dark smoke windscreen. Since my bike is a Carbon, the shiny plastic windscreen did not look quite "right", and aesthetically I felt the screen should be just a little wider and taller to better complement the lines and massing of the bike. I have not been impressed with the looks of other offerings in the aftermarket, and absolutely prefer the clean lines of this design. After experimenting with a variety of chipboard prototypes I settled on the design being represented here.
In collaboration with the fabricator we laser scanned the original screen, then produced a 3D model, which I was then able to use to render reasonably accurate illustrations of the proposed final product, presented here for the first time.
If there appears to be enough interest we will go ahead and start manufacturing these. We think we will be able to offer a product of the highest-possible quality at a competitive price. As always, the more we can make the cheaper we can sell them.
Ordering and fulfillment will be handled by the fabricator who already has experience with selling aftermarket parts to the automotive and aero industries. My royalty per piece is ridiculously small -- I am not in this for my own profit! I really just wanted to get the "right"windscreen for my bike... then the fabricator got excited and thought we should have a go at making these available to the Diavel market. And here we are.
Please let me know what you think. Ahh... the Disclaimers: 1] If this proceeds I will certainly "ante up" and become a properly registered vendor for this (and other) forum(s); 2] I can make no guarantees or promises at this time. When we get this greenlighted we will offer similar warrantees and consumer protections as other vendors in this category; 3] Of course, I am keen on doing this as soon as I can!
Thanks to all here for your support!
