This is one of the most hilarious motorcycle reviews I've ever read! Both bikes have the exact same price, but the Ducati weighs less, has more power, is faster, laps around the track quicker, has better electronics, has better brakes, and looks better. Yet in every photo, the Buell is in front of the Ducati, and in every comparison statement excuses are made regarding how the Buell isn't quite a good but somehow they still like it better. The main point being it's more comfortable and doesn't put off as much heat. In every other respect the Ducati is better. And the conclusion: begrudgingly they have to "give the nod" to the Ducati, but by the narrowest of margins, mainly they're just happy that the Buell is American.

EBR 1190RX vs. Ducati 1199 Panigale Superbike Comparison Test Review

I saw two Buells in person last week and was not impressed. It's nothing I would want to own.

What a joke! It's like an auto mag taking a Mustang over a Lambo just for comfort and the country it was made in.

I got the same impression from the article... U.S. Against Europe.. I understand, I'm American but I love my Ducati... My international affair.............. ;-)

Buell has never really spent much time focusing on visual appeal, which a good portion of consumers base their purchase decisions on when it comes to motorcycles. They'll never "catch on" to the consumer market unless they add some visual appeal to that ugly ... bike. Doesn't matter how many races they end up winning.....hypothetically speaking.

It was definitely an entertaining read.

I am not so sure Honda Yamaha or Kawasaki spend too much time on the aesthetics either???

I'd take any one of those over a buell based on looks alone. Even an S1K :)

Plus those bikes already have a hugeeeeeee consumer crowd. If you were to ask some of those same owners what a Buell is, you might get a response like "a muel?"

Let's see what the replacement looks like in 6yrs and I may reconsider the EBR.

It's visual appeal is non-existent compared to the Panigale I'm sorry to say.

Wicked awesome first effort though!

I wouldn't mind seeing an all American super bike succeed.
Not sure if it's this one though.

Wait for Elon Musk make a 300 HP electric Tesla bike and THAT will be the American bike that succeeds!

The credit they gave the EBR was not just for it being a US bike. They had issues with the brakes on the track and so they called it semi inconclusive. The Pani was all over it on the track, but the lap times were only .15 seconds faster than a bike with vibrating brakes from a bad supplier.

I'm very surprised by the negative responses here. The bike is EXTREMELY close in track times, and for a bike that is just now hitting the market from what is essentially an all new company, the bike is damn good right out of the box. In fact, with the brake chatter fixed they think the bike might be even with or faster than the Ducati on the track.

Regardless of which is faster, I think you have to give them a lot of credit for building such a competitive bike.

I'm with Jarel. I thought the article was pretty biased.

One thing that struck me as I was looking at the pictures was Buell's decision on the exhaust. Some people give Buell credit for making the underhung exhaust a reality on modern sportbikes. I've even seen people give him credit for the Ducati going that direction. He had most if not all the old Buell's fitted with the under the bike exhaust and made a good argument why it was placed at that particular spot. Now fast forward to his newest version with all the other little details he put in such as brake cooling scoops, and he puts the exhaust on the side that is reminiscent of 2003.

What gives EBR?

Did he forget about the exhaust in the design process and just throw something on there to pass regulations?

Ditto - my take on the article was similar. Their point was that there has never been a truly competitive, US-built sportbike and now there is. Not planning to trade my bike on one tomorrow, but it's good to see the Buell out there and as good as it is - more choices are better. I'll have to see if I can snag a demo ride on one locally to see how it goes.

Forgot to mention; they didn't say anything about changing tires, so if they're lapping that close with brake issues and Rosso Corsas versus Supercorsa SP's then that's a solid package.

Yet another edit: just noticed in all their on-track pics, their base Pani is wearing R wheels...

It's an emissions thing, the 1190RS shipped out a similar exhaust. Here it is with the racing exhaust.
