Yesterday I decided to play with the DDA and GPS a bit. A couple of things for those who aren't yet familiar:

1) set things up on your computer before acquiring data as you have to erase all DDA memory before being able to complete the download.

2) don't leave the DDA plugged into the bike as even with the ignition off there is a continuous draw that will, in time, definitely tire your battery. (measured 12.57vdc plugged in and 12.67 after removed).
Last year someone posted something about this continuous light load so thanks for that.
Nothing to do with the DDA but out of interest I turned on the ignition and measured voltage at the source - 12.57vdc and at the instrument panel - 12.37. .2vdc loss to the panel. And does this matter? Nope. Was just curious.

Considering buying the DDA+ but $600 is steep. I already have a small lap timer (picks up beacon) and a GPX GPS one. Really want the integrated one, but not sure it's worth the $$$.

How much would you pay for one that was used for 30 days?
I sold my bike and the guy that brought it didn't want to spend the $ on it for the street.

Dda +

Anyone know the capacity of the DDA +? Search turned up 2mb, 2gb, 16mb. My guess leans toward 16mb.
Took a few minutes to erase a 10% memory fill, done on the bike. Must take quite awhile to erase 100%. Can this be done on the PC?

While this topic is open, and people are learning about DDA, I was wondering if anyone has had this experience besides me: (2013 1199R)

If I leave the DDA in the bike between track sessions (~35 minutes downtime), when I go to key back on, the bike's computer will not pick up the DDA (remains greyed out). So, I have, all summer, just taken the seat off and unplugged/replugged it in between each session whether I was downloading data during the cycle or not.

Otherwise, the DDA/GPS is a great learning tool, as I'm able to easily see what I'm doing and start to see where I was fast(er) and why.

Same thing here. It happened to me last time and I had to unplug it and plug back in. This is the first time after many different days at the track.

I always unplug it as it keeps pulling even when off. I actually added on a switch that cuts it when I'm off and I turn it on when I want too. That way I don't have to unplug it.

I'm currently experiencing this problem and it's intermittent regardless of whether I remove and reinstall the unit. Sometimes even after many attempts I still am unable to have the computer recognize the DDA. Other times it works first try.
Have cleaned contacts and jiggled leads/connections but to no avail. Sometimes, but not everytime, I can get things working by first opening and reading 'battery', then exiting and immediately selecting DDA. Probably just a coincidence due to the intermittent nature of this trouble.

DDA Not Working

And does this procedure work for you every time? Unfortunately it doesn't for me. Sometimes yes, but it's more hit and miss.

Anyone else having this issue and if so what have you been able to determine so far?

I have the same problem, it worked once, since then It isn't recognised.
I took my bike in for its first service last week, and the dealer checked it and told me I was confused because the bike has to be in race. And I had mine in sport. He then demonstrated that flashing the headlight in race makes the lap timer start/stop in race.
Got home, re-read the manual and realised he was talking about the standard lap timer, not the DDA, which is still greyed out in race and sport.

Ha!
I don't believe it. I just went back to my bike to try the suggestion about going into battery voltage first, and the moment I went into setup, the DDA was lit up, for the first time in weeks!
Must have seen me coming.

Each time you start the bike , you have to go into the menu and turn the DDA on, if you turn the bike off, it also turns the DDA off,, then when you restart you will need to go into the menu again and turn it on.
So each session you need to turn the DDA on.

Hope this helps

The problem is not being able to select 'DDA' to turn it 'on'. In fact the 'DDA' doesn't select, it just gets bypassed as if the unit wasn't plugged in. Again it's intermittent, but faulty on most attempts.

Oh, that's another problem in its self, my bike after plugging the DDA unit in, I have always been able to select the DDA in the menu and turn it on.
Sorry guys I don't have anything to add to help out.

Good luck

I guess the harness has an issue. It dies that when the red key is not plugged in. I see the DDA menu available every time the red key is plugged in, just a couple if times I had to take it off and plug back in.

DDA Activation Problem

Thanks to information from WAF the workaround for me is to:
1) turn on the ignition,
2) plug in the DDA unit
3) go into 'menu' mode and select DDA
4) turn it on
Has now worked every time using this approach.

I'm unable to activate the DDA if the ignition is not turned on before plugging the unit in. Should be able to but can't.

Also important here is to ensure you are out of 'menu' mode before inserting the DDA otherwise can't select DDA. Just bypasses.
