Dealer Frustration

So I guess supporting a staff, building and paying there techs should come out of the owners pocket? WTF dude. They also take all of the liability if something goes wrong. If you don't want to pay do it yourself and move on.

I've purchased two Duc's from AMS over the past 4 months. Great people to deal with. Jordan, Dan, Sophie and Jeff (owner) work in the service department and offer the best service experience I've ever had. And for that I'm not going go bicker about prices. My BMW autos cost more to service than others as do Ducati's...

$90/hour is worth it for me to have the best tech's in the country working on my bikes. Their service department appointments are 2-3 weeks because they are that good.

If you can get the work done elsewhere for less, just go elsewhere. No problem.

Tom

Fair enough.... But unless Math has changed a lot since my school days 1 1/2 hrs labour @$400 is not $90/hr... Their rate is $100/hr plus shafting fees.... AMS BBB rating is F .... Do you wonder why???

I just happened to be at AMS yesterday and I someone called about getting some work done and it sounded like the person on the phone was trying to debate the work estimate. Thought that might have been you. Maybe not...

I happen to get a flat yesterday at lunch on the 1199 and wanted to ride with some friends in the evening so I needed it fixed asap. I called service knowing full well they were booked solid. Sophie said "come on down we'll get you taken care of". She started mounting the tire but the phone was ringing off the hook. Jeff, the owner, realized I was waiting, stopped working on a bike he had his hands full with, and mounted the new tire for me on the spot.

That's great service...

Tom

I think thats brilliant service.... whats your point???

We're still beating this dead horse? You so could have done the install by now.

Lol... dude I will.... believe it or not I have been busy.... I have my kid this weekend but next weekend I will do it....

Do something fun, I bought some new vinyls for my bike :).

OR FATHER SON/DAUGHTER MOMENT! Totally biffed it...

Yea that's not right it should have been $150 if they quoted 1.5 hrs @ $100/hr. sounds like Jiffy lube to me. Everytime I take my car in for just an $40 dolllar oil change on my Lexus they say I need a new this and a new that and clean my injectors and flush my transmission for $400. I just give them a finger and say oil and oil filter change only please I can do rest myself because the parts at Autozone is 1/3 the price your trying to sell it to me for. Hell if it wasn't for the hassle of disposing the oil I would do the oil change myself.

I do however get really good service at my Ducati dealer though. They never tried ripping me off. They always give me brand new fairing screws everytime they take off a panel and oil my chain and adjust the tension, check the brakes and fluid no matter what I bring it in for at no charge. When I stopped by just to have levers put on they did that and again when I stopped by to buy some grips and install them they did it again. It's like the service at Porsche.

Must be nice. When I told my new dealer, after the move, they almost flipped when I said I do my own oil changes and use Royal Purple. /facepalm (I use Max-Cycle 20-50 with Synerlac.) I have no complaints.

I own an auto repair shop and installed the slip ons on my Panigale. I think 1.5 hrs is pushing it. 3 hrs is closer. Left side hangar bolt is a PISSER!!

notwithstanding the rest of the stuff. BBB is the biggest biased joke of an organization out there. They aren't out for consumers best interest. They are out for their own best interest. Their ratings are strictly to try and strongarm anyone who does business with the public to "join" as a member and pay BBB membership fees. If you don't they don't really give you the avenue to get a good BBB rating or to dispute a bad one.

It's one of the worst consumer protection organizations out there. The wild and free internet is a better system than the BBB and will hopefully put them out of their misery once and for all.. .

You guys crack me up.....

So you guys buy expensive Italian bikes and expect the cost of labor to be next to nothing??? Time to put the crack pipe down. Sell your Duc and buy a Honda and quit bitching and let some wrench monkey who doesnt know .... work on your bike for a mere pittance.

First of all if you purchase any brand new high priced item, there has too be some kind of discount or gift! Something, a t shirt , key ring... Something! Then when you spend more they should give a break on say the first service, not FREE a break... It s just ....... rude when certain dealers have no customer loyalty! More rude is when you have people that probably don't own a high quality bike and make comments like get a Honda don't be a wise guy, and this isn't analyze that the movie and your not Robert de Niro!

Rude is when you don't expect dealers to make a decent living by giving .... away. Yet you still expect top notch service. What a bunch of whiners.

as long as they bill you the correct amount of labor time it takes them to do the job i don't see the issue and if that is 3hrs then you just have to pay up.

it's tough for them to give you a discount on the labor when you have not bought the part from them as if something goes wrong they are fully liable.

Why??? Well I think its simple... I understand paying a premium to have someone else do the job... But if I know that A. I can do the job and B. it takes a complete amateur around 3 hrs then should I not feel shafted that a fully equipped and experienced dealer wants to charge me 4hrs labour??? Especially one at which I have spent so much money previously??? Of course I have the option to say no and walk away.. I am... but if you think I dont feel embittered then you are much thicker skinned than me... I am pissed off at this and WILL not ever spend any money at this Stealership again...

I imagine they quote conservatively so as to be able to take time to get it right without scratching fairings taking them on and off then they have to test ride and check etc. I have done a few things myself and I actually enjoy learning about the bike and learning how to do things with it. Years agon I only took my bike to the dealer for major engine work otherwise we did everything ourselves.

I just checked on that BBB rating... One complaint and since the dealer didn't respond to the BBB regarding that complaint, they gave them an F rating.

"I asked my dealer if he would fit them at first service and he said they would be happy to - just charged me two hours labour to do it. He asked me where I got them and I told him, and he was cool. I did explain to him that he didn't miss a sale, cos I was never going to buy the Termis in Oz"

This quote from another thread demonstrates that installing slips is a 2 hour job for a Ducati shop... so charging me for 4 hrs is a rip... its funny how you guys have twisted my words so that you are saying I am expecting the dealer to work for a pittance or that I dont accept the dealer needs to make a profit.... That's hardly my point.....Its quite simply that this is NOT a 4 hr job... so to charge it as this is a lie/deceitful and a rip off....

I'll pipe in on the dealer conversation.
I have had nothing but great experience with mine which is Indy Ducati in Indianapolis.
I won't say I've never be surprised when I got a bill or how much something would cost but I never felt like I was getting "ripped off".
They give me discounts on parts, gear etc which I always appreciate.
I try to get things from them but sometimes I get stuff on the internet because at the end of the day a buck is a buck and I gotta save them when I can.

They are a small business so I like to give them the business when I can and don't feel the need to beat them out of every nickel because their shop rate is $90 and someone else is maybe $75.

I have to believe that come winter revenue gets pretty thin in there so let the guys make a buck when the sun is shining!!

You guys crack me up.....

seriously - in this day and age, if you're using BBB as the reference for a company, you're being woefully naive. With Yelp/Google/etc reviews and what not - the BBB is extremely limited and dated in their ability to provide any consumer value and the fact that they are partial to whoever pays them - makes it even worse. Read up on the BBB and how they play their games and how they do their ratings. The BBB has lost most of their relevance. And since they were never impartial - it makes them even less relevant.
