Denial is not good for anyone

I am lucky enough to own a 1098 and an 1199 and have been on track on both and have a slight preference for the 1098, although that may be because I have fitted Desmo front forks ? plus I do like having the low down torque on the 1098 (it helps hide the fact I am sometimes in the wrong gear !)

Either way both are great on track and on the road, 1199 is more comfortable when touring around Europe and the adjustable mapping is very useful. I am a big race fan and love to see Ducati on the podium but as other people have stated even if it is our worst year I won't be rushing to trade to another brand at my level all the superbikes are faster than me but there is only one that moves me ?

We can say all we want that WSBK doesn't matter or have any bearing but that is total denial. The DNA is there and we are looking at a bike that is a winner on paper only. It's not trolling..it's reality. Their worst season ever....sad but true
Ducati ended its 2013 World Superbike season with a whimper after neither of its riders last race of the final round in Jerez. That meant Ayrton Badovini's 12th place in the title chase is the worst ever for Ducati since the series began.
From the inception of the series in 1988, when Marco Lucchinelli nearly won the title on debut but ended up 5th after the team decided not to contest the last two rounds, Ducati has been synonymous with World Superbike racing and victory in particular.

Ducati have won the title 14 times in the 26 years the series has run. Ducati had been so dominant the World Superbike Championship was given the pejorative "˜Ducati Cup' in the early 2000s such did the brand dominant the field and results. Even in the years that weren't a Ducati victory you didn't need to go far down the order to find a Bologna bullet. You have to go back to 2000 (when Troy Bayliss finished 6th) to find a time when the best Ducati didn't finish in the top 5.

By contrast this year has been a disaster for Ducati. Hopes were raised when Carlos Checa put the radical new Ducati 1199 Panigale on pole for the first race at Phillip Island but his crash in the first race combined with Badovini's ankle injury meant the team left Australia with nil points.

Things only got worse from there. The all new bike has proven to be no more a match (at least in Superbike form) for its formidable Japanese and European competitors than the Ducati 1098R it replaced. In fact, during the penultimate round, Lorenzo Lanzi finished 9th and first Ducati on the obsolete 1098R. The Panigale only made it to the podium once all year (Moscow Race 1 with Badovini at the controls).

With this background it was sad to see Carlos Checa call it quits, his disastrous season this year somewhat undermining his glorious resurgence in form late in his career that helped him earn the 2011 World Superbike title for Ducati. How long will it be before there's another one?

I am sorry....But I don't see how this matters one iota to my enjoyment of my bike..... If I or anyone else is dreaming of WSBK when we are riding..be it track or street... then we better wake up....Personally I am much happier with the Panigale than I would have been with the 999/1098 or 1198....

The op is just saying that the 1199 didnt live up to the hype i get that and STW is saying that it doesnt matter to him about the placing he loves his bike. So i have no problem with either point.
I myself as harsh as i am on the 1199 have no problems with it when i am riding it. my complaits are with the thought process on the design and how things work and the lack of real world testing (my opinion) on the bike.

Finally i dont know about you guys but when i ride and pass an M5 i think im MM:D

If I was only planning to street my pani, I wouldn't care about pro race results so bad, but when you spend so much money on a bike, you'd like to know its an actual successful bike in the pro series to give you the confidence to take it to the track.

I just bought a 1199 track bike that has the 30mm ohlins cartridges and the ttx rear shock. The PO I believe was near my body so I wanted to try the bike on the track as is before I start seeing the differences with tuning the suspension. The bike was just awful, so twitchy in the front end and in the rear end. I rode the same track I had all year with my 600rr and I was struggling to go 8 seconds slower compared to my 600rr race bike lap times.

Hopefully next season I can start the bike off with a dialed in suspension I can be a lot more happy with the bike on the track.

i have both a 1098r Bayliss and a 1199r and i really like the 1098r on track it;s just such a well sorted bike and the engine is a monster, currently i prefer it but i will have a better idea next year when i get more track time on the 1199r. Either way it's nice to see your bike to well in racing especially considering the price tag.

this was what my post was really about in the if i knew then what i know now is about. you dont get what you pay for. A friend of mine mentioned to me a while ago about the twitchy front and that his rc51 is better for the track than the 1199 because of it. oh and that all he has to do is change the oil and never have to worry about anything.

I never understood this line of thought. The Ducati could come in dead last consistently, but that wouldn’t change the fact that it has much more to give than I personally (and I bet nearly all commercial buyers) have the skill to max out. So who gives a crap? Always seemed to me only the squids got in arguments about whose bike won what. Not to mention, now I’m no expert, but seems to me “bikes” don’t win races, winning and losing races would seem have much more to do with the rider than the bike. The whole thing just seems silly. I bought the bike because I love it. And I literally could not care less if some professional racer came in first or last on some modified version of what I bought.

I actually care less about the WSBK and more about the superstock 1000 class right now. I think that what they learn in that class translates back to club level racing that I participate in.

The WSBK to me is a great show but that's about it. It's really a shame that they did not have the right level of focus and $$$ on the bike. They needed to pair up someone with Carlos that showed better results than Badovini.

Wait, some team Panigale didn't win? Brb, I'm going to go dump mine in a ravine where it belongs.

I notice the OP hasn't responded so I am saying this smells like some weak trolling to me....

Last I checked my Triumph Tiger 800 didn't win any races either but it is damn fun to ride. Plus I can bring my wife which is always a blast.

There are a crap ton of bikes out there that people ride the balls off and love every second and they don't even compete in any sanctioned racing events..... I don't think there is a correlation at all between race wins and funness.

Your unhappiness is in your mind and the truly unhappy love to pee on other people's brains. Soon you will join them in hating what you once loved. Weak.

On the other hand in STK1000 the panigale did very well. In many cases beating BMW, Kawasaki, and the rest. I've seen the panigale consistently do well and make podium in the STK races and it seems to me this is much more relevant to us as non racers because this category runs models that most resemble what you can buy, SBK bikes highly modified are not within reach of most of us.
I dont know why people duel on how Ducati does in SBK or MotoGP as if it they where the same bikes we are riding, and we all raced for a living. Of course I like the brand and would like to see them win, but it has little to do with the way I perceive or enjoy my 1199.
These are very fast bikes that are truly unique in their character and aesthetic. Never had a bike that I've enjoyed more.

+1 Can I get a HALLELUJAH! Amen brother!

Haven't we beaten this dead horse enough? How many years has the Pani been in WSBK. Oh yeah...just one year! How many manufactures are at the top of the field after a total revamp of their bike? Isn't there usually some sorting out that has to happen before they are truly competitive?

I'd say their promo trolling didn't garner much interest in their site's opinions from people here.

+1 Pani brought me back to Ducati

Like new tyres you mean???:p

haha...yeah our tires ain't cheap, that's for sure. No, haven't found something worth it yet, but when I do you'll know.....actually everyone will know when I'm wearing my race leathers.

Now everyone, close your eyes and get that mental image burned in there.....
