I absolutely love this bike - and if I had this much disposable income, I would buy it. If you ever decide to donate it, I have a charity: wish-a-desomo-to-me.com, that takes these bikes and gives them new homes to deserving individuals :D

I looked at that link, pre-owned, and couln't find it?

RD16rr - you might want to think about parting it out as well .. . There are some who have parted the bike out for more than what the entire bike sold - especially higher mileage ones. . ..

For those that don't know, the replacement value on some of these pieces are so high - that this sometimes makes more sense than selling the entire thing whole. .. I know that someone got close to 30K on the engine alone last year - though I think that value is probably closer to 20K now. .. Just a thought though the thought process sometimes dictates that you sell it whole vs parted.

could easily be done. . . here is off the top of my head -

Wheels 1200 (front wheel worth majority, rear wheel no one really wants.
Brakes 500
Frame 5K ??
Side fairings 3k
Belly pan 1500
Front fairing 1500
Tail subsection 2500
Tail piece 1k
Shocks 500
Front forks/triple 2500
Engine 15k (conservatively based on miles)

Thats what - 35K ? Pretty close to asking price. and that doens't include the pain the ass smaller pieces like rotors, master cylinders, dash, etc, etc). . . The question is whether the market is larger for new desmo owners or to sell to existing desmo owners needing replacement parts ?

If it was me, I'd seriously consider that alternative route, and I think he knows exactly what I'm talking about.

.....well...owning it, has/is/always will mean more to me than a "simple" math problem 1+1+1 :)

-- if the situation arises where someone is looking hard enough, or is desperate for parts, they buy another bike as a donor - i've had 1 request from someone in that situation, but solved his problem when he found the 1 major component he was looking for

-- definitely agree though, the math makes it work

In a million years could I sell off that bike piece-by-piece. Nor mine, unless it was totaled. It would be like cutting up a beautiful/famous painting in small peices to save a few bucks :(

Marcus Dairy?

Great pics!! Recognize lots of faces.
I really miss the Dairy:(

Man this just brought back memories Lance!
I used to go down there WAYYY back in the 80s man and it was unreal.
Best bike gathering that was a regular event EVERY Sunday, not just periodically. So cool to have a great breakfast and walk around gazing at all sorts of cool bikes! Thanks for memory lane man! :D

Destinations: Marcus Dairy, Danbury, Connecticut - Classic Motorcycle Touring - Motorcycle Classics

...it is still going on.....but admittedly "the institution part of it" has disappeared and that was a big draw (the dairy bar itself) bacon and eggs for $1.99 :)

-- it's a Panera Bread - Whole Foods strip mall now.....but they offer free coffee refills, ample parking, and its all freshly paved..... so nobody is complaining :)

If only it didn't need to be serviced like a high maintenance broad then I'd be all over it!
GLWS. Beautiful bike.
