...."if only...if only".....life is too short.....you deserve this bike :)

I don't know about deserve this bike but if you have never owned and enjoyed a desmo - you should. A desmo is like no other bike. Its not just another bike - it really has a lot more going on in terms of its panache, its exclusivity, its rawness, and its seemingly endless power. If you think the panigale(or 1098R) gives you chills or goosebumps the desmo is that times 10. (Ok maybe not 10 but easily double or triple ). Its a double RR - Worth the price of admission if you afford it. No joke.

...yup...."what he said" ! :D

If you guys loved it so much, why on Earth did you part with them? I only dream of owning a Desmo, it is the ultimate for me.

....it is a great bike...unique in many aspects for sure.....if you ride it however, you need a degree of dedication that goes beyond what you might be used to - think "petroleum products", and consuming them, in abundance....after 23k plus miles, it's time for something else :)

yup, completely agree with you, that's why I parted with my desmo too

Does it feel a lot heavier than the Pani?

If you have issues with the pani as a daily rider, then the desmo is out of the question. It gets about 55-60 miles to the tank (yeah thats not a typo). The pani gets 100 and people complain.. . It's also hot and I'm not talking the wussies complaining about heat on the pani hot. . ..

But in terms of keeping people from staring at the bike, wanting to ride the bike, attention it gets, the goosebumps you get, the desire to ride the bike - its way more than the pani. You park a desmo next to a 1198, 1199, S1000RR, RSV4 - and all the others are just red headed step children as everyone will gather/stare at the Desmo. . . It's like you're with the good lucking girl at the bar with a bunch of other good lucking women - then Kate Upton shows up. .. .

But as indicated, if you only have one bike, the Desmo is probably not it. I'm impressed that RD16 has 23K miles as he's really used it.. . If you collect or like unique and different bikes and can afford it, then the Desmo fits.

I have loved this bike since seeing one on the showroom floor when I ordered my Pani - it is all those things you said, I am sure, and more. I have watched the movies it is in, and will always lust after it. :(

and finally:

here is a post you might enjoy reading:

-- overall it was a very special motorcycle, that provided me with the highest SPMF (Smiles Per Miles Factor) of any motorcycle i have ever owned(period)....without creating a list, i can say that i've owned plenty of bikes to compare it to

-- the saddest part of ownership were the service appt's (simply because it separated me from the bike), which for no real good reason other than its exotic nature (parts, service knowledge, shop schedules/special technician) would take weeks on end....notably.....literally months to get done....in the end though it doesn't matter.....it has been one special motorcycle, which i'd gladly repeat purchase for the same experience...

-- as it turns out....after 4 seasons, 23,000+ miles, 1 initial, 2 minor and 1 major service, along with a few trips back and forth to the shop for a few "incidentals"(1 blinker, 2 tail lights, bubble in the cooling system, new rectifier, wire harness glitches), broken shifter spring/stuck in second gear (better than stuck in neutral) :)......

- 16 sets of tires (1 set every 1500 miles)
- 1 case of oil used for topping off between rides
- 1300 gallons of fuel (approx)
- 2 ignition coils
- 8 exhaust valves
- 12 valve shims
- 3 clutches
- 1 shifter return spring
- 1 sprocket set
- 1 under tail exhaust heat shield
- 1 footpeg stabilizer bar
- 1 rear blinker
- 2 tail light units
- 1 rectifier
- 1 chain
- 1 set front rotors
- 1 set front pads

....i've decided to take a rest from ducati ownership for a while.....while it has been a pleasant journey, i welcome the pause(i've owned 4 916's of different flavors, 999r and then the d16rr - each bike with plenty of service miles)....so i have semi-officially retired the d16rr......enter......1 - 2012 kawasaki zx6r - excellent bike, high spmf, and service (when needed) is not a symphony....... after this ducati experience......"thanks for the memories......."

..oh really.....?...."lust"..?.....re-read post #52 :D

I had a somewhat similar journey with a Defender 110 NAS (oil, gas, tires, maintenance). I have always said "you must love a Land Rover, to own a Land Rover". It is obvious you loved this bike VERY much :)
