Display Fogging

The ECU doesn't do anything to inhibit the amount of RPM's, even in the first 621 miles.

I will get a service light again at 621 miles though... I'll just have them reset it.

Yep sorry didn't explain myself very well, I meant the display co.our of the rpm, during run in its orange around 6k rpm, if I remember correctly? Along with the service light? And service intervals there after, I just thought they could reset with this type of display...

Same happened to me, one heavy shower, took a photo, sent to dealer, new dash on its way!!!

Same issue on my 1199. Had the same issue on my 848EVO too. I read on another Duc site that you could gently use a hairdryer blowing towards the condensation and it would eventually clear up and not return. Tried it for a while with no results. It'd be nice if my dealer didn't build brand new bikes then leave them outside in the rain until you buy/pick them up.

Mine had fogged a little on a few occasions in the past, but it went to a new level at the weekend...

When I got the bike out, its stored in the dry and hadn't been ridden for two weeks due to the ...... weather in the UK, there was no sign of fogging. However, after I'd been riding for 5 minutes the center of the display fogged quite badly and small water droplets could be seen starting to condense around the top of the display near the TC light.

Next the gear indicator stopped working and only showed 1st gear. As I wasn't far from my dealer I decided to ride straight there and let them see this happening first hand. Then it got worse, the gear indicator started flashing from 1-2-1-2-1 and then finally the N light came on a few times before it settled back to just showing 1. The thing that shocked me though was that when the N light came on, maybe while I was doing just 20-25 mph, the bike took off like I'd cracked the throttle full open. Fortunately I wasn't close behind anyone at the time and as it flicked back to displaying 1 quickly I wasn't rammed into the back of the car I was following. But it could have been nasty!

The fog, condensation and lack of gear indication were still there when I arrived at the dealer and they were able to take pictures, but the service department wasn't open and I had ride it home (carefully) before taking the trusty Daytona out instead. On the way back home the fog cleared and the gear indicator started working again.

Now the dealer wants the bike back so they can run diagnostics before reporting it to Ducati. I would have thought pictures of a computer (dashboard) full of water were sufficient and this wouldn't be needed.

For those of you that have had your displays replaced, has the problem reoccurred? If its a design flaw, I don't see that changing the display will fix much if they haven't changed the design. Its not rain getting in as the bike had been inside for two weeks and it wasn't raining when I took it out.

Wow!! I would not be happy if my 195hp motorcycle had the throttle do that!
I wouldn't have ridden it home until I knew it wouldn't do it again!

As to the dash mine has fogged up and there is a spot on top about the size of a penny under the plastic that looks like it got hot and bubbled up.
They are replacing the dash.

Another fogged dash here also. One photo and an email to the dealer, and another is on order.

Mine fogs too, but it's never seen water. During the 848 times, it fogged the first 6 months every time and then went away, but I remember that warranty wouldn't cover it. Glad things have changed.

Yep... from what I understand, there is an entirely new part number for the dash display than first production run bikes.

It is supposed to fix the fogging issue and the display not recognizing the toggle switch.

They were unable to move the mileage on mine to what it was before the dash change.

So, my 5 month old bike now has 8 miles on it... Lol.

Did your dealer tell you there where two part numbers? I'd love to know the two part numbers if you have them. My bike was one of the very first on the road back in April and has this problem, but I don't see any point in replacing the display for another one that has exactly the same design issue. If the later bikes have a redesigned display with a different part number it would make more sense to go ahead with a warranty replacement.

Yes, I was told by my dealer here in Austin that there was a new part number for the dash display. They didn't tell me what the new and old numbers were. Mine, like yours, was one of the first on the road as well.

I guess I can look a bit more carefully of the service receipts to see if there is any part numbers.. I'll let ya know.

Threads like this make me wonder if they even test this stuff before dumping it on the public.

Just seems like really poor QC/R&D to me.

Thanks. My dealer has the bike at the moment to perform diagnostics because it had a gear indication problem and several uncommanded throttle inputs, while the display was full of condensation. They initially suggested that if the diagnostics don't show anything, the display fogging isn't covered under warranty. If I can find the new and old part numbers I don't see how they could refuse. i love the bike, but i really don't need this hassle!

Mine fogged the other day, first time it's done it in 6,000 miles, wasn't raining and it cleared quickly afterwards... interesting to see it's a recurring fault, will keep an eye on it.

A friend had his dash replaced after the shift lights stopped working on one side. Mileage reset to zero, tacho showed the 6k limit for the next 621 miles and the service light came on. I believe he was told there is no way of resetting it to the correct mileage.

I didnt think it was even legal nowadays to install a speedo that indicates lower-than-actual miles for the vehicle.

Every other vehicle that I know of stores the info in the ECM and changing the speedo has no effect on it. Leave it up to the Italians to come up with a "better way of doing it"!

I can see many scams in the future when these bikes are being sold used.
