Given the number of crashes recently and some ticketing of riders by law enforcement (cough)... beginning to wonder if riding this bike on the street even makes sense ????

I love it...but I tell my non-riding friends that its like riding a jet ski in a swimming pool.

IMHO, no. Coming from naked bikes (monsters and a streetfighter) I tried to turn her into a street bike from the start and that was what I will call my complaining phase (comfort, heat, etc.). Once I gave up on that and relegated it to fun twisties only I really started to like the bike a lot more. I do not think it is even a "good" street bike. You can use it on the street, but the ergos, heat, power, etc. is not ideal at all for street riding in my opinion (remember, I am not a sport bike guy so I am comparing it to street bikes in general). That being said, it is wicked fun to ride, but it's really too much for the street. I like ttkarp's explanation and you could come up with a lot of other similar analogies (having a Ferrari daily driver, etc.) to describe it. If I could only have one bike this would be at the bottom of my list and I would probably pick up something like a Multi, Hyper or SF if I wanted a Ducati for daily/street use.

that's why i don't and never did.... :) she will get you in the end...

Well, you can liken this to almost any car as well. The speed limit is about 65-70mph in most states. Why even sell a car that goes over 100? Hardly anyone that buys a BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, (insert sporty car), etc is actually going to take it to the track, so why aren't they governed to the speed limit? I'm extremely glad they're not, but logically it doesn't make much sense.

I personally think that my pani is way too powerful/quick for me and my skills, but I absolutely love the thrill I get with my morning ride to the office - definitely makes no financial sense, but thats part of the fun :)

I believe the spirit of OP's post isn't with regard to the speed potential above the speed limit but more to the bike's heat, comfort (or lack there of) and behavior while in and around town and on the streets.

cars and trucks do go above speed limits but aren't uncomfortable around town and bitchy when driving under 50mph.

That was how I took it. I love the bike, but about the only place it makes "sense" is on a track. Sure, you can commute on it and if you have the testicular fortitude and masochistic tendencies of an Antihero you can ride it across the country, but for my money there are much better bikes out there for those purposes. I am keeping it for the time being because I love riding it. All the things that make it not make sense (aside from the heat and comfort) are the things I like - the angry lumpiness, the obnoxious loudness, the ridiculous tire raising power. Dang..I want to go ride now. :D

Honestly the fact that sport bikes in general, which are OBVIOUSLY made to go faster than leagal limits, are offered for sale to the general public for road use confuses me. Likewise, as Capt said, if you intend to obey all road laws, what is the point to buying a 650hp GT500 or any Ferrari, Lambo, etc. The soft cooshy ride on the way to work? I think not... So basically they are sold by advertising extreme performance that you cannot legally use, and with the knowledge that most people don't track those cars in the US...

While riding the pani on the street and twisting the wrist, I literally sometimes think "how the hell is this thing legal?!" while grinning ear to ear

If we all wanted to obey every law, we should all be riding Vespas instead while getting 60mpg :)

Rode this bike twice on the street and never again. It belongs on the track.

the problem is that when getting doped by the things it does so well on the track, you'll get nowhere near this fix on the streets without risking yours and someone others lives... and i don't mean you have to be running Checa's times... i hope this does not sound arrogant as it surely is not meant to be..

Checa's times? Do you mean lap times or the sprint from the gravel to the retaining wall? He's running alright...giving de Puniet a run for his money in the crashed out stats.

:D

Mine probably makes even less sense.......I live on a 9 x 5 mile island with a 40mph speed limit :D
