I am getting old and reflective I guess......

Of course it makes a great street bike. How else are some of the guys who throw down tons of cash on accessories going to feel validated unless they can show it off.

Good Question.

I have found that pretty much all motorcycles tend to be good servants and make for very poor masters. With regards to the Panigale, this bike clearly takes some time to master, be it for road, race or road/race. While I feel there is an overwhelming majority who agree that pushing it on the road increases danger for all concerned I also see the same for those on the track, so in essence when we push it we are all in the same boat, just at different ends.

Folks on this forum tend to enjoy projecting their own issues on other riders, be it you should be on the track or your .... or if you don't have X then you don't have the best or simply being hated on for having a bike that represents a lot of time and effort. I really do pity the haters on the forum and that includes the elitists.

Lets face it, if you can not respect a strangers success than your simply a hater, projecting your own issues on others.

Only a fool would pour money into a depreciating asset and view it is an asset to show off (as so many folks like to project on others on the forum). For me myself I pretty much have got used to being hated on for having a nice bike, however this is only because I don't let the opinions of other sway me and I get what I personally like and not to please any other person who walks this earth. For me, Ducati's are a toy not an asset and not something to make another person feel bad.

Canyons, open roads and track for me. Around town or on the streets nope unless I have to.

low and behold.....another rider from CA and who shares the same opinion.

people actually ride these around town?  that is what the "street" means to me.

canyons and the open roads? tons of fun! :D

I can see it from both sides, but to me it boils down to does it make sense for you? I have no qualms about riding on the street and commuting with the bike, and at the same time don't have any reservations about the track. For me, I love riding this bike and if that means commuting on it to get my fix, I'm perfectly ok with that.

Not sure what that has to do with anything related to this topic?

The title of the thread is "Does this bike make sense . . . . "

Carl is likely answering the OP's title/question by stating in his opinion that the bike does in fact make sense to him and that it makes sense to those individuals who like to show off their bikes after spending lots of money on mods. Point being that without taking the bike out, no one would see what the owner has done to the bike. So taking the bike out to him "makes sense" or "justifies" ownership and also makes the modder feel validated.

I think I'm confused now too:confused:

True. But the point of the thread is safety & practicality. I took the "validation" concept as a shot to those who enjoy modding the bike. Similar to the ever popular Starbucks (poser) comment. Apologize if I'm off:)

Agreed.

Maybe it is an expression of his/her viewpoint.

I have found that people who extensively modify bikes and lets face it Ducatis lend themselves to it, are not "showing off" by action (unless you are literally putting a bike into a professional show and this is a positive in its own right), more so that "modders" such you and I earned our money fairly and when looking at a heavily modified bikes it also represents the amount of effort, time, resource (money) and patience the owner put into the bike and thus a reflection of what it took to earn the money in the first place and in essence keeps one working hard. Lets be clear the haters project "showing off" in a negative light and it is quite often fueled by HATE. That's my personal view point.

In addition, I really like seeing how folks modify their bikes in different ways and this forum has been from time to time a great place to share that information.

Unfortunately, this always brings out the haters, whom by disposition will always relationalize the world and their actions in ways that support what they wish to think, truth is always the first casualty and ignorance the first fore step. As such, the haters project their ........ on anyone and anything that they do not actually understand or do not have. Haters are also not exactly tolerant of the differences in people and confirm to a mental model that keeps them hating, usually by projecting their a false sense of superiority on someone or something that they actually desire/want/miss.

I myself pity the haters and the haters hate education more than anything else as it causes them to face their own issues rather than continually projecting them on others.

However on this logic, I have to ask why would Carl feel that folks spend lots of moneys on accessories to show off and validate ownership of a bike, when he himself possibly does not spend loads of money on accessories ? It sounds a little odd to actually think that someone would spend a certain amount of money on an already expensive bike :)relative) to feel it validated having the bike in the first place ?? An example of this would be somone buying a bike and thinking OK, I need to spend an unknown amount of money and spend lots of hassle, etc and heavily modify this bike to justify having it all in the first place ? Makes no sense to me.

Given the number of crashes recently and some ticketing of riders by law enforcement (cough)... beginning to wonder if riding this bike on the street even makes sense ????

In its street legal form it makes just as much sense as any bike out there. The power delivery is pretty tame below 6,000 rpm and short shifting still feels and sounds good. Doesn't matters what you are on when a DUI or texting teenager t-bones you though.

Also law enforcement will get you whether you are on old 250cc or a 1400cc rocket ship if you are over the speed limit - easy to do on a bike. There are some devices that will help mitigate this if you live in a state with principally laser speed traps.

So it sounds like you are questioning whether you should ride a motorcycle, I'm sure its just a phase and it will pass ;)

I'm not being sensible at the moment, my AR system is so loud I'm just living on borrowed time before I get pulled over for a non-compliance notice. So anyone tracking the bike or living where noise restrictions don't matter, I will be selling my AR system soon, just can't say exactly when ;)

HA!
It makes about as much sense, as the old dear, I see most days driving her Mercedes GL63.

Don't get me wrong, I applaud her for such a car (SUV), but what, maybe mid 60's, woman needs an twin turbo V8, SUV, to get about it. Other then for her supposed safety.

Choice is everything!

I think you all answered the question yourselves who have decided to go Socrates on analyzing my reply.

It was a joke guys. You have all seen the Duc owner who has a lot of bling on the bike and drops mad cash and then rides it once a month, has it stored in a car port, usese the supplied tool set thinking it contains everything to work on the bike... you know those guys. Hell maybe it is some of you who found the need to be so analytical of the reply in the first place.

And what's wrong with this?:D

it's your money so put whatever "bling" or mod or what have you into your machine.

mind your biz.

live and let live.

Nothing "wrong" with it but since I am entitled to my opinion, and man is this forum full of them, I will post it.

Go buy a Harley Davidson... you're clearly starting to think and wanting to ride like a Harley Davidson rider

Nothing wrong with that

AS MY GOOD FRIEND DAVE D WOULD SAY: "don't be scared"
