Just a thought but is the bike even the original posters? It only says "my restaurant" not "hits my bike". Had to have it towed could've meant that was the outcome for the owner.

Anyhow, yes I would've been pretty irate if it were mine and I'd have had a few choice words for the guy.

Ok some replies,
I've have had anger problems in the past and have been working hard the last few years on control how I react to things, so this was a darn good test lol.
The old guy just didn't care. I had to go into the restaurant and ask him to come outside. He just didn't care. He said things besides, .... happens, like whats the big deal and no ones dead. An apology would have been nice. Cops just could not believe the guys attitude.
He was given a ticket and then the old guy got upset. He wanted me to get a ticket for where I was parked. Cop refused. My insurance company says even if you park illegally in Florida. The person who hits you is 100 percent at fault. $500.00 deductible is a bitch but I hope to get that back in time.
Now I had the OK from the Mayor to the meter company to park there. Parking in our town is hard to come by. Was it the best place to park? no. However the video does not really show how much room his parking spot has before it gets near the bike.
Parking on the sidewalk is out of the question.
Don't know the cost of damage but it's a lot of damage for just a tip over. Had it towed because the handlebar was bent down.
Everything is fixable, just a bitch as we all love our bikes and keep them so clean and cared for then someone comes and just doesn't care about your property.
Only real bummer is I loved riding to work. Helps clear the mind and the weather is perfect.

Just watched it again. Didn't see that the old F ran up on the curb as well.

After reading what else he had to say, I am surprised you did not bitch slap him. Those anger management classes worked!!
(can I come down and do it for you?....I don't want to control my anger!)

That is indeed sickening,

Last month I was at a red light in mid town nyc. The car behind me was couple of feet away, so I let go of the handle bars. Two seconds later I feel a push, I grab the bars n stabilize the bike. Turn around n realized the ......... is busy texting, that's when I totally lost it. I was wearing my dainese metal gloves, punched a solid hole on his hood, punched the driver Window n broke his mirror. It was a black gypsy cab. He didn't say a word. Got on the bike n left. It felt great. :-D

happend to me as well, years ago with a different bike (no damage, it was just a tap). we were still on the workplace property so it was a co-employee as we're leaving work at the end of the way. i suspect he was on the phone but by the time i turned around, he was off.

so i couldn't exactly "attack" him but i'm not the type of person to get mad like that in public. you have to be careful about doing property damage to someone's car. they're in shock at the scene but once they get home and think about it, they feel they don't deserve it and if they can identify you, they may call the police to make a report before they call their insurance. don't want to be in that spot.

Based on the video and your commentary you and those around you should be very proud of how you handled a very stressful situation. It takes a lot of strength to channel the rage constructively.

Old guy hits bike then walks into my Restaurant for dinner. When I confronted him he said, "no big deal, .... happens."
Had to have it towed.

I have much respect for you.

Things do "happen" like my brand new helmet plastic piece AGV Pista from Europe that broke off last night when I unhooking the cheek pad...

I almost threw the helmet at the wall....Just kidding. :D

But that old guys attitudes was not right for sure. If that man apologized for what he did and did the right thing with insurance process/police etc... Maybe I would say "hey, things happen" to the old man...NOT from him to you!

just an fyi, when i dropped my couple-weeks old helmet and cracked one of the vents causing the piece to completely detach, the helmet manufacturer was kind enough to repair it for me free of charge, they even sent a shipping label to reclaim the helmet.

might be worth a try. pretty sure they obliged because for previous model helmet, the vent was user-serviceable but for my new model, it was not (factory only).

MadeinItaly-You should also notify/file complaint with your local DMV and show them the video. That would make them investigate the old farts license and have a mandatory meeting with them. They would probably retest the careless ........ With that attitude, this is not the first time something like this has happened.
In regards to your $500 deductible-sue the jerk in small claims court. Maybe we will see you on one of those reality court tv shows.

Thank you for the info. I will try for sure. Only thing was is this helmet is only for Europe and not sold in USA just yet because of the ratings.

He's clearly at fault here if like you say, it's a legal place to park. I wouldn't sweat the deductible. At first insurance companies have to go through the motions and determine that he was in fact at fault, then you'll be all set not having to pay the $500.

Man that really sucks, the best part is the video evidence.....how many times can you honestly say you have evidence for something like that happening?

Way to keep your cool though!

WOW, I can honestly say I would have lost my ..... Not just because it happened but because of his attitude about the situation. If he came running into the place and asked does anyone know whose bike that is and was apologetic, things certainly do happen but to do that and act the way he did, I don't think I could have let that slide. My hats off to you.

Dude, there is no deductible for you. He hit your bike. He got a ticket. His Insurance pays. Even if it was a hit and run you would not have a deductible.

"i agree .... happens, i'm looking at one"
that said, i prolly will let loose a few bad words on this .......

His insurance should cover it, so you should not have any deductible. Call his insurance and make a claim, not yours. And they are not bound by any policy, they owe you everything, including any time lost, tow fee, rental if possible, any amount whatsoever you are out due to it. Him being cited and of course the video will seal the deal with who is at fault so I doubt his insurance (presuming he has any) shouldn't give you any trouble. If all else fails, then file with your own insuance and they will attempt to collect it back from him or his insurance company.

Very smart to keep your cool man. Among other things, if that's your restaurant you don't want to advertise drama or offend your own patrons (right or wrong).

I learned a long time ago (also in service industry) you don't make an ass of yourself when people can track you back to your job. Not that you would have been unwarranted... :)

Everyone's right, his insurance will have to cover everything. If I was you, I'd ask my local duc dealer how much to rent their demo bike while yours is getting fixed. You may be able to be reimbursed for this, but check with his isurance first. ;-)

And lastly, way to stay calm even though this guy was a total d!ck.

He has a ".... happens attitude as long as it's not his own property, but when he's facing a ticket and fine & accountability then he gets upset. Wow! I bet that sorry b@stard is the biggest d!ck in his neighborhood when kids run up on his lawn or hit his mailbox or whatever... as a lifelong florida resident, so I know his type all too well.

i have to say very impressed, that you stayed calm the whole time, most of us would probably do some violence most DEFinETLY me, and that would be bad. Who wants to go to jail for beating down some old guy who doesn't care? BEST part police got involved gave him a ticket, and adding to his fire you have the whole scene on video, any court or insurance company will have a field day with that!! In the end you win he looses, i do have to say i'd probably tie him to the car and drag him down the road until he loked like pizza
