DQS ignition cut too long, quickshiter

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Was speaking to a guy recently who has had multiple QS units on his V4 under warranty without success.

Eventually they changed out gear position sensor and his problems disappeared.

His dealer said that they can be problematic in individual gears etc without totally failing.

Don't know how factual this is, but it may be worth a look.

Was this straight from the bike owners mouth or was it from a guy who knew a guy who heard it at the pub? When I get mine back if it is still .... I will push them to try and replace it.

I put a TL unit on my 1299S and it's still the same issues as the stock unit. 4-5-6 at speed on a race track is just dangerous! You almost get launched into the screen the deceleration is so severe!

Interesting. My OEM QS failed, cutting power to engine randomly, so I got TL unit for my R. Just did a race track and worked flawlessly for me.

I did 10 track days with stock QS on my Pani V4S, with more than half of those at COTA. Its performance has been tolerable, but very far from ideal. The biggest issues I have experienced was when the fuel light would come on, I can't be sure why, but it has happened at least twice, coincidentally it was also either in the last or maybe second from the last session in a day, a very hot day too.

Shifting would become a total mess to the point that I had to pit in and abort a session. And it wont be particular gears, just across the board, randomly it wont shift, hesitate, etc. Maybe it had somehting to do with low fuel, but I never really lost power or anything like that, only during shifting.

The most dramatic experience was 2 weeks ago, COTA T20, it went into false neutral, I was getting frustrated and slammed it into first while at lean angle, rear locked up momentarily and went sideways no less than a foot (worn SC1 slick).

Apart from that its under performance has been more subtle, but still on some days I would avoid first gear all together or had to be more assertive with the shift forces between certain gears.

I decided to upgrade this part.

I am leaning towards this

but it is much more money than TL, although I think I know why, but I wish someone could chime in who had first hand experience.

Cordona is probably the biggest supplier of SGQS. They have their own branding and supply units to many other brands. I'm currently using the plug&play unit on a 1299 with a programmable software platform. So far, it's amazing.

I finally got my bike back from the dealer and took it for a spin and the QS seems better. Hard to tell on the street properly but it was giving some snappy kick in the pants shifts like my Aprilia used to. Still seemed laggy on some shifts but as I said hard to tell properly on the street. Positive so far

I’ve had this same issue with my 2019 V4S. I came from a 16 S1000RR the Ducati is way smoother on the down shifts however. So I would hate possibly losing some of that smoothness chasing better up shifts with a aftermarket unit. So I think I’ll deal with it.

Ordered mine today, will test it at Nurburgring in couple weeks.

Does the different ride modes eg sport and race affect the QS cut times?
Mine was starting to become a bit temperamental on my r over the last 500 miles or so and I changed from sport to race and it seems better! It bangs and cracks more :D and seems to less of delay/hesitant when I’m pushing it :)
I’ve done nearly 3000 hard miles now.

I thought I was going to be able to live with the less than stellar up shifts.
I was wrong wrong wrong I decided to change the sensor for the cordona unit.

Look here for the install.

My initial impressions are it's 100 percent better than the factory one.
A lot more precise and consistent. I didn't like how the factory shifter would upset the bike so much on those full throttle upshifts. With this one that is nonexistent. The down shifts are still butter smooth.

I noticed a bad habit of mine. With the factory shifter when I was going to upshift I would preload the shifter. With the cordona unit you can't do that with almost any pressure it activates. So a bad habit I have to fix.
Overall I'm super happy with my purchase.

I am interested in your bad habit and wondering if that was your problem all along and now wondering if I do that. I'm pretty sure I don't as I do change my foot position considerably to up shift but maybe you thought the same.

The dealer has replaced mine twice with the most recent one having a new updated part number. I haven't been able to ride it at the track yet but is does seem better for the short bursts I have had. Really can't test full throttle shifts from 4the gear and up on the roads around me.

No the factory QS just isnt that good. My S1000RR was near perfect on up shifts but not as smooth on downshifts. I noticed the QS was as smooth on the first ride home.

Different platform, but my 950 SP has the same issues. Its super smooth at part throttle but as soon as you get on it you may as well not use the QS, it feels like I'm missing a shift. I don't know how Ducati took such a big step backwards, the QS on my 1199 SL is perfect at part throttle and wide open alike. If anyone has a fix for the 950 SP I'm all ears.
