Ducati 1199R - Who has ordered one?

I might jumping the gun here, but the reason the R only sees a minimal performance gain may be because the 1199 may have reached the pinnacle of L twin superbike performance? You can only make two pistons so big and spin them only so fast before reliability and cost become huge factors. I mean really, what's next..... a 1400cc Panigale? This is a bit off topic, but with MotoGP and WBSK going through changes I would not be surprise to see Ducati begin mass producing V4s at a more reasonable price than the Desmosedici D16 within the next few years.

Ok so let us sum up the sentiments of the owners according to 1199 models

Base Model : I do not need the S, it has some fancy DES suspension, lightweight wheels and that is it. With the amount of money I save from the S, I can do this... I can do that... and besides it will not make the rider faster than me, after all it is skill that counts.

S Owners : I do not need a Tricolore, it is just an S with a fancy paint job. plus the exhaust it provides is not full exhaust system. and that DDA and Lap timer thing, when will I ever use that.. Might as well buy a full exhaust sytem witht he money I save.. besides it will not make the rider faster than me, after all it is skill that counts.

Tricolore Owners : The R? What a joke, it is just a tricolore with a full exhaust, Sturdier conrod, Sure it can rev 500rpm which can be used in the straits but who needs that. It also has a lighter fly wheel and a retoothed sprocket which yours truly can do . Racing windscreen, I can just use my gold old fashion double bubble screen. Witht the money Difference from my tricolore, I can just use it to make my bike faster.. Besides it will not make the rider faster than me, after all it is skill that counts.

R owners : the RS13? who needs that, it just has a fancy 17,000$ front forks, full carbon fiber body, a fully reprogramable software, a new swing arm, magnesium everything, titanium everything. . with the money I save, I can pretty much buy a fancy car. and besides it will not make the rider faster than me, after all it is skill that counts.

RS 13 owners: who needs the f22 raptor jet, sure it can go to mach 2.5, have rockets and missles and all, guiding system, gattling guns. It will not make the rider faster.. after all it is the skill that counts...

That is funny, but you know what, I say fair play to anyone that buys any version of this bike. Personally when I saw this bike I had to have it, I've never owned a Ducati before, didn't understand the 'twin' thing but this one just worked for me. When I saw the price I was gutted, way out of my price range and that was that...until I test rode one, the 'S'...what can I say. I saved my pennies and with the help of Newport Beach Ducati I ended up buying a base Panigale, and you know what....it's the frikin dogs bollocks! Coming from a not so slow 2005 ZX-10R it's night and day, Panigale is easier to ride fast, more feedback and so on, can I use it to its limits...no way, but I sure enjoy exploring and pushing to my limits, knowing the bike can take it in its stride and keep on delivering. Would I want the S? Sure, the Tri, the R? Yep, but that was not an option for me, long story short I am sooo happy with my bike and happy for anyone that buys any version of it, if you want and can buy an R then do it. I am just thankful to everyone on here for keeping me focused on buying this bike and letting me enjoy all that Ducati has to offer, but why did you make me wait all this time??

Yup 100%.

This is also known as "Post Purchase Justification" and "Man Logic" :p

The R used to be the holy grail of Ducati Superbikes!

Race ready, no nonsense, hard as nails, or for the well healed, simply the fastest 2-wheeled Italian bike .... that money could buy.

IMO, this is not the case with the 1199R.

Essentially for me, Ducati now make 3 versions of 1199 - RED, WHITE and TRIC

Difference between them is marginal, with arguably the biggest differentiator being the Tric's paint job.

They should have Corse'ed the R .... but maybe that'll be for the next variant.

Anyhow, choose and be happy folks and thumbs-up to those that want an R :):)

+1

Good stuff! Makes me laugh deep down inside. :D
I'll admit I was kinda bummed about the R coming out so soon for only $2k more when I wanted to have the baddest Duc on the block...but even the base is truly more bike than I can handle and I do like the Tri color scheme better. So to each their own and have a great time riding whatever model it may be.

Lot of "haters" on this one. I have one coming, and I'm excited about it.

Oh yeah, I don't care if anyone doesn't like it, or can't afford it, or ????, because it's for me- not you.

It's the pinnacle of a really nice model, and a work of art in many ways.

I hope this thread can back on track- I'd be interested in hearing from those who "have ordered one", ie arrival, impression, etc.

I put my name in for first alternate at my dealer and put a deposit for the position.

I may start looking for a open position, however I would like to buy it from the same dealer if possible.

Ha - he left one out:

No Panigale: 1199 Base? Who needs it. Just the most beautiful bike in the world (won an award, German mag), best power to weight ratio ever, most powerful twin ever, most advanced electronics on a bike ever. But who needs all that? Way over priced at 18K. :D
