" Although standards differ between states and countries, class actions are most common where the allegations involve a large number of people who have been injured by the same defendant in the same way.[1] Instead of each injured person's bringing his or her own lawsuit, the class action allows all the claims of all class members—whether they know they have been injured or not—to be resolved in a single proceeding.[1]

A class action doesn't mean you will lose money out of your own pocket, maybe you are not understanding how a class action suit goes. Someone, hell, BMW could put it out there that Ducati misrepresented their numbers to sell over their S1000RR (they claimed more HP than BMW then). They contact ducati owners who may have been effected (all) and put a huge court ordered fee out on Ducati. This could be to just shut ducati down so one less competition. These class action suits happen all the time in the USA. Maybe you missed when airborne medicine was sued because they werent really a medicine they advertised to be.... That was 23.3 Million to be settled. And that was just a normal guy who took them to suit and got them to admit their wrong.

If there's one thing that this thread will effectively accomplish, it's identifying the bench racers on the forum.

Reading this thread again and reading how upset people are, I would swear that Ducati broke into your garage and without warning installed restrictor plates on your bike.

Again, did your bike get slower all of a sudden? The actual printed numbers are meaningless. It's all relative to your own personal enjoyment. For many miles and months you thought your bike was awesome (judging by comments in other threads). Now that you find out that they rate the HP by a different measurement tool it's not longer something you enjoy? Again, it doesn't have any less HP; it's simply measured differently.

i would have to say, not one person here would buy the panigale if the printed numbers stated 120 hp and weight 550 lbs. but since it was 195/205 HP and 367 (dry) the HP to weight was looking great. Now, is 7hp loss going to kill anyone, no...

I agree that i love the bike, i never once complained (as many have on here) about it. It makes me thrilled each time i ride it. But what got me in the seat of the bike (other than the looks) were the specified number that came with it. If i got the bike expecting close to 205 hp and it was really much lower it changes what i am going to do to a 26K USD bike. Or the same with the weight of the bike.

So again, the printed numbers got us all in the door (along with the looks) and no one liked to be lied to . Now, do i think this will go anywhere... Hell no, but its sad they do this regardless.

Yes granted, there are huge differences in how the law is implemented, between one country and another, but I am not sure the process is quite as transparent here in terms of costs, particularly if any ruling were to go against you.

now i know why my hp4 always smoked those r machines besides my own personal awesome riding :D so i have one bike for looks at a snails pace (1199) and the real mccoy in the hp4. ducati you keep proving me right all the time.

Mist manufacturers do this and as such , as previously mentioned in this thread the only true comparison is same dyno , same conditions. Even specific tire discrepancy or the way a bike is strapped onto a dyno can make a difference. All I know is the 1299 is plenty fast enough ( too fast in most cases) for 99 percent of us and gives comparable dyno results with anything else in the litre class.

We had a case in Australia with one of the local car markers. They were marketing their top car with 420kw V8. all mainstream Mags and reviewers all punched this number around in all their articles
One Workshop came out saying that on their dyno fresh off the car lot, they engine made 303Kw. Other tunner shops soon started to post up between 300 - 340kw. No where near 420kw.

But like at my local track.... the current superbike class poitns leader races a 600cc and is 2-3 seconds than the next rider on a ex ASBK HP4.

Guess the HP number battle at the local cafe is getting serious.....

Every frickin sport bike forum has this topic come up except the S1000RR forum. It is the accepted norm that the difference between BHP/PS and rwhp is around 10-15%. For BMW's it is around 6-8% power loss. I remember the Yamaha R1 guys cried foul a few years ago too!

Get over it! .... Until we start racing dyno's it doesn't matter. All that really matters is the rear wheel HP... Even then you can only put down so much power in the first 4 gears on any current SB because you are traction limited.

Like i said in the V4 post. HP numbers have not from a statistical significance factor gon anywhere but to fairy dust land. The easy to obtain HRC Kit parts built 2006 (15 years ago folks) 1000RR makes roughly 205 RWP on Attack's Dyno and North Vally's Dyno. Unless you start looking at artificial aspiration, it ain't going anywhere. Your going to hover between 195 and 205 at the crank. Sure you can squeeze more out of it but there are not many here that can afford to maintain that and not from a monetary perspective. HP is "attention to detail" intensive.

Time to step up to the current century. I get the homologation BS but come on. When do the games stop with this .... festival over a couple of HP. You want to get it done, get it done. This is where its at folks.

This is an interesting thread about quoted bhp figures and it has got me thinking. I recently received the attached document from my local dealer, it is a comparison of the R-FE and SL. It states that the R-FE power figure comes from an engine dyno and the SL power figure from a chassis dyno....very different methods of measurement that would indicate that the SL engine has a significant power increase over the R-FE

Thoughts anyone?

@endodoc

Thats a dyno graph. Its produced from a Dynamometer, which is a device for measuring torque or power.

Oh, wait...$hit, I really dont know any of those fancy mechanical terms. My nephew drew it on his etch-a-sketch, so I reposted it to look smart.
