Paul how is that even possible? How long you been around the brand? Probably not long so pick 5 dealerships head over to the service department see how many these bikes are stacked up waiting to be fixed. Better yet ask the techs how many of them they can't even figure out what's wrong with them.

I have been around this .... way too long, built too many these things (going back 20 years) with the brand to know the reliability issues have always been the main problem with the brand.
Yeah Mick, sadly a significant proportion of Ducati riders are tossers who's destination is Starbucks and wouldn't know a brakeline from their .... except the brake line is bigger. A mirror falls off and its a trip to the dealer. When I grew up mechanics were called mechanics, now they are are called technicians and come with a beard and latte. In other words its all about appearances and because people can get 0% loans and watch way too much youtube crap they get a highly tuned Ducati superbike to compensate for their lack of self worth. They have not done the yards, have not earned the right to keep a thoroughbred fed and watered so they proceed to .... the bikes by being useless ..... and then blame the brand.

Its a mass produced (by Italian standards) high performance bike, not a UJM

I commuted on a V4 for 2 years straight and loved every moment of it.

I have the same great riding experience here ánd Pani’s do long haul touring with luggage very reliably. Did several 2500mi/4000km mountain tours on mine last few years as well and it was a blast each time.

Must admit riding Pani’s slow in hot city traffic is ‘easier’ if your upper body is strong to resist the strain on the arms ánd I need to wear fire resistant underwear to prevent 2nd degree burning.
Besides, do bring spanner 11 to occasionally quickly remedy clutch fade especially above 5000ft! For the rest no issues riding her with lots of enjoyment.

@GPV21 Bayliss in another post I already pointed you to my DMS and DDA experiences which are the exact same hardware modules but even less functional on V2 I understand, where on V4 they are just about OK-ish (C+), not bad but by no means a ‘bang for the buck’ (i.e. buggy/functionally limited)

The Ducati Alarm-module is fairly functional and LOUD! Works as occasional theft deterrent to initially put off dumb ... baddies when parked for a short while. It even has a panic button to scare off the unwanted.
I would suggest to also have a hidden tracker installed. E.g. Monimoto or Viloc are effective trackers IMHO

I resemble that!

Thanks mate!
From what I’ve heard it’s really hard to break a V2 motor. The engineering is sound. And like Paul says, the 955 is less stressed. Now everything attached to the motor may be suspect and has been gone over by the accounting department. But for the money, it’s a quality bike. The 2 year warranty is industry leading. Also, you’ll pay a lot more for insurance if you go liter+ bike.

I’ve got 10k mi on my 959 and the only hiccups have been a faulty shifter mechanism and exhaust servo motor that Ducati graciously covered under warrantee (even though as it a month out of it).

I’d say the only downside of ownership is how expensive it is to upgrade parts. Like an slip-on exhaust costs $4k and rearsets are $1k (if you go DP or DC). For a Japanese bike these things are substantially cheaper.

Yes I rang the Ducati Dealer to say you made a mistake on your website, it says a Full Akrapovic exhaust is $7800 & a slip on is $5400 only to be told that is correct but doesn't include fitting!!!
I will be fitting that myself and Arrow or buying Akrapovic direct from Italy maybe..... WRS have it for about 30% cheaper.

There's no reason whatsoever to pay someone to install a slip-on. Full system is a little more understandable. The Ducati tax on the Akra systems for the V# bikes is absurd, truly insane. They also have some unnecessary steps in the installation process that increases the billable labor hours on the full systems. For example, on the V4, install calls for removal of the front wheel to get the radiator off. I had zero issues removing my radiator without removing the front wheel, came right out.

I think the better move with the full Akra install is to remove the front wheel and the entire radiator/oil cooler & shroud assembly as one assembly. While you're there you can change to Engine Ice or the like.

You don't have to remove the front wheel as the instructions say, but I think that's being done to reduce the chance of damaging the radiator and make fitting it and the oil cooler less of a wrestling match.

How is the fuel economy? How far can you get on a tank of fuel?

On my V2, the range is about 150 miles but I never go more than 120 without filling up.

How much fuel does your 120 miles take to fill up? My regular ride to work is 234kms for 2 shifts. Would it make that on 1 tank?

Maybe he’s going to track the bike while his phone is connected via a buggy Bluetooth module and doesn’t want the bike to get stolen when it’s parked at Starbucks.
