Hello!

I recently hit 1k miles on my bike (bought brand new). It’s a 2024 Panigale V4. Today I got caught in my first bit of rain. Shortly after the rain got a bit heavier, my quick shifter stopped working and the bike just turned off. Before this happened, I was going about 55, trying to downshift into 4th.

When trying to turn it back on, it would make the sound to start but the engine would not turn over. I pushed it into a gas station lot and tried again about 7 minutes since it first turned off. It started! I still had about an hour ride to get home and from that point it ran just fine with no further issues (barely hit any further rain, either).

So my question: why did this happen? I’m worried it may happen again but I wont be as lucky. I had a 2019 Panigale V4 prior and never had this issue even when stuck in far worse rain storms! Any information would be great!

Italian bikes hate rain. My Aprilias would not want to run in rain. I don’t even try with the V4. My best rain bike was a 1998 ZX9 that would do over 100 in the rain with no problems at all. Of course it was an analog bike with carbs, no MAF sensors or any sensors at all.

Scan for any pending or stored codes and go from there. It's possible water crept in somewhere, but without any further information all anyone can do is guess.

Total bollocks

I had Diavel gen1, rode it all over Europe, many times in heavy rain (which was unpleasant) - not a single issue

Will attach some photos later.

I’m not seeing you riding in a hard rain, pretty pics you have. So get a GoPro and let’s see you make a video whilst riding in a hard rain.

Been there with my 2022. Happened 2x that I can remember. Only happened w heavy rain and stop and go and partial throttle. Lots of steam was enveloping the bike. I think water vapor chokes out ignition when it’s close to idle d/t poor fueling and sealing of the airbox.

my name isnt 650ib, I don't do that useless GoPro stuff on the road. in fact those photos are from 2014/2015, I don't ride on roads like that anymore, its dead boring.

found few more photos, is this rainy enough to convince you ?

...., I don't even know why I did all that, so much discomfort in there.

Crazy! It’s just weird my 2019 Panigale V4 didn’t have issues like this. I’ve been stuck in way worse rain on that! Things must have just changed on the newer models. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Dielectric grease is your friend. Smother any relays and switchgear with it and you'll be thankful of the advice. It is naturally water repellant and anti-corrosive so will keep any electrical gremlins caused by an ingress of moisture at bay.

Exactly the same thing on my 22 pani V4S when it was new. Ended up finding the wiring harness plug that seats into the left side switch block lose. Would happen after I washed the bike or rode in the rain. From memory there is no decent retention setup with it so I blew it out carefully with compressed air and zip tied in place as best possible. Haven't had the issue since.

Had problems after washing bike, bike went limp mode several times, finally they find some corrosion in ecu pins. Alost new bike.
