Ducati Performance Battery Maintainer

Is over £60 for a battery tender (the cost of two batteries lol). Looked under the seat hoping for a battery and of course theres nothing, just the dda connector which presumably fits the ducati maintainer. Oh how I laughed.

Is it easy to get to the battery to use a normal tender?

If not:

How long does it take for the panigale battery to discharge and will a quick ride round the block suffice?

Can't find my manual, just downloaded the online one though so found battery. Unsure if I should get the DDA connector thing or a normal tender.

I use the Junior Battery fighter which comes with leads to attach to your battery. Been working fine now for 3 years. They are cheap and you can get it on ebay

Buy an aftermarket battery tender!
The Ducati thing connects to the CAN-Bus connector. This connector is not designed for hundreds of connects/disconnects, plus you always have to remove the rear hugger. Very unpractical.

if using stock battery, get a junior battery tender, they work great.

If you are using a lithium battery, you will need to get the appropriate tender for the battery.

The Ducati tender is pricier than the others but not having to install the pig tails on the battery and then not having the battery cover go back properly and then not having the pigtail end hanging on to something... is worth the cost (to me).

Did you really expect to find a battery under the seat?

To answer the the other questions... Quicker than you think and no it will not.

Dave - don't get the Ducati one. Overpriced & as mentioned the connector isn't designed for repeated use, an aftermarket product will do the job perfectly well.

Personal preference but I'd go for a basic Optimate. Cheaper, readily available in the UK and you can plug it in for a few days at a time and forget about it. You might find that the dealer has already put an Optimate plug on the battery for you, most dealers seem to nowadays.

If you're worried about the battery you can always check its charge via the dash. Also, if you've got a tracker (UK insurance...) then it'll send you an email when the battery gets low.

I charge mine once every few weeks otherwise the datatool tracker drains the battery fairly quickly.

i have the oem charger and i have pigtail on my battery and i plug/unplug every time. after dozens of time, no problems with the parts and they are holding up very well. cable under the backseat is connected to my rear camera so use your connection to the battery. it is true the battery cover will not go back on properly.

Battery Tenders seem to crap out after a couple of years, a better quality trickle charger is needed

Get the C-Tek chargers. They can recondition batteries as well and have LED indicators that tell you if the charge left is good or bad.

I've had great luck in the with the Battery Tenders. I'll put the leads on the battery then have the plug somewhere hanging where it is easily accessible.

Been using the same on one multiple bikes since 2009 and it still works great.

A quick point for those with Shorai. The JBF see my previous post is fine for the Shorai range.

I have two Shorai and when I asked about buying their tender the Australian distributor looked up his list of tenders that were suitable and told me not to bother buying the shorai tender as the JBF was fine.

He could have lied and told me that I needed the shorai tender but he did not so very ethical and good customer service.

That combo has been working fine for over a year.

IMHO (ONLY) The Optimate 4 Is Best; Hands Down!

Without bringing your thread to a discussion between member faves, I now always throw in my Disclaimer about things being "IMHO" or "Based on My Experience" because I have seen simple questions become heated arguments about which item is the best, worst, etc etc. So this is my opinion, based on 10 years of experience using one of these devices on multiple motorcycles my friends. It has never ruined, damaged, or overcharged ANY battery in ANY bike Ive owned over the course of owning this item. I thoroughly researched the Co and its products before what ended up being the best method overall, speaking with the TecMate Rep Mike Cooper who explained everything in plain simple terms that this dumb Grunt (Its a saying in the Corps) could understand. These links contain other threads here which the topic is discussed and many questions can be answered too! I also include the Vice Presidents contact info should you (or anyone) decide to invest in this absolutely awesome battery maintainer which will save you lots of money and headache over the years regardless of which bike you may own! Hope it opens some eyes and ends up helping someone over time guys! ENJOY!

Best one is this (IMHO of course-lol)

A charger's a charger. Just get a decent name brand. The Shumacher 2 amp FLOAT charger is perfect for this bike.

I leave the pigtail permanently attached to the battery leads. The plug is right by my left peg. I plug it in when I park it. No big deal.

If you want heavy duty, and fully potted, this Guest charger is used in emergency generators everywhere. Water proof and tough as nails:

Should float at 13.2 volts.
