Hi t4dey,

I am having this done right now along with an akra system. Broken out in the quote, I am getting it put on for $3.1k for the STM system installed all in including parts. I feel like this is a good price and i negotiated a little with the fact that its snowing where i live now. Hope this helps.

I’m just guessing here but maybe $500? I’m getting the work done for the cost of the kit retail. It’s worth it to me b/c of the custom tools needed.

its mostly sound and a connection to the older bikes. It makes changing out the clutch a quick operation for the track as well. i will only put 1-1.5k miles on the bike per summer so to change out a clutch in 4k miles for me is not a big deal.

The labor ended up being 3 hours at $105 /hr. Not bad at all.

The benefits of the dry clutch (as I see them):
Eliminating Engine oil drag is the biggest advantage - This is the primary reason why you see motoGP bikes with a dry clutch. Less drive train power loss. (by no means am I implying that I'm out riding the wet clutch!)
The sound- This is for nostalgia as cruzin2 implied. It sets the bike apart and is a definite conversation topic. (My primary motivation)
Engine protection, as the plates engage they produce debris and while the oil filter cleans them out, they are still there.
Clutch performance. greater feel more responsive.

Downsides:
Wear and tear, a wet clutch is better cooled and protected by the engine oil. it will last much longer while taking more abuse. They are also more 'ride-able' for a street application. Smoother clutch operation as I would describe as less 'bite'. They have a wide friction zone so that you can feather the clutch in and out during stop and go riding. A dry clutch has a narrow mesh point for the plates.
and they are quite. (if you don't like the awesome noise for some crazy reason!)

Kev,
Did you see all the videos? The guy had to borrow tools from the dealer to get the job done! Anyway, when the dealer took a look at my bike, they found a oil seal was put on crooked at the factory which was a potential leak path that would eventually take hold. This part of the job was covered under warranty......

So what’s the deal (benefit) of upgrading to dry clutch other than the sound and keeping engine oil free from clutch debris?

I want to install that Factory Pro shift kit because i can never find neutral. Id also like to install a high quality slipper clutch

I'd like to add to DucatiKev question. Does it cover the bikes engine in dust under normal use, does rain hurt performance, does road debris and dirt from street use shorten life?

the kit come with a solid cover that’s just like the oem so I doubt dust or debris would be getting in there. Now, if you have an open cover then I could see dust getting dust on the bike.
