Ducati Superleggera Owner Roll Call!

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

It is common knowledge that Ducati's Moto GP bikes (and among others the SL) are orange, but Ducati calls it red. :p

It might be common in South Africa, but I would venture to guess this is nowhere near common knowledge in the states even among Ducati owners. Common knowledge is defined as nearly everyone - I would venture to say that Ducati "orange" as you call it is not known as their version of Ducati "red" for race bikes is known by even half of Ducati owners. Maybe even lower. . It certainly doesn't reach the threshold of "common knowledge". I'd say it doesn't even each "common knowledge" for the members on this forum as exhibited by the people who didn't know in this thread. Of course everyone in here will claim - duh, yeah I knew, but pretty much most people have /never/ seen the Ducati "orange" race colors in person. although some say its more reddish pink than orange.

Well maybe you have a different color for "burnt orange" where you are from but its nowhere near a burnt orange (Texas longhorn colors ) as we define it in the states

I can just see that argument now:

"No, really! This #499 IS the last one they made!!!"

This really doesn't make sense. Shouldn't the triple say /499, then?

It makes sense if you know the backstory - Professor Piech personally requested the last one. And he wanted it to be #499.

If you want proof you can go to the Audi museum, where you'll see #0 - the real first production SL.

I don't doubt you and I recall the teaser video with 000 on the triple, however I thought that was a prototype and expected it to go in the museum.

What I didn't think makes sense is having the number go to 500 and not 499 if the last is 499.

I definitely understand what you are saying - but if it went to 499 then 99% of people would look at that and think that there were only 499. So, it goes to 500 and creates what is admittedly sort of an odd situation.

The preseries bikes are marked as " /500" - they have a blank space instead of a number.

I see and agree regarding the series / count. That is interesting regarding the preseries... I wonder how many triples they must have premade???

Who is Ducati's major sponsor? Phillip Morris! "AKA Marlboro" as in Marlboro red/orange as seen on the white and red/orange Yamaha's back in the Rainey and Lawson days. That's where the MotoGP team bikes color comes from, it's the sponsors color. The SL matches that color.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little...

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." Big tobacco still sponsors Ferrari too!

It's not that... it's the idea that the color I love so much (be it Ducati red, or Ferrari red) could somehow/possibly be influenced by big tobacco (I think that's a stretch, but still...)

That's funny. You show $2.5M of cars on your signature, and are worried about paying for an SL? That will buy what on an Aventador, brakes? :)

one (usually) doesn't become wealthy throwing away money.....

(there is much rust on his pool railing....)
