If the Desmo was being sold now with the same warranty and servicing agreement that it had when it first came out, its a no brainer..

But based on the current situation and from a practical standpoint, the SL is the obvious choice..

Love the Panigale to bits, but I gotta say, even though it's an ugly son of a b*tch, the Desmo gets my vote.

Only due to the fact though the Desmo is the closest thing you will own to a Moto GP bike. The Superleggera is just another version (5th) of a an already awesome bike.

I think somebody else on here elsewhere summed it up in a conversation about the Surperleggera. Ducati are selling to the Apple generation i.e. iPhone3, 4, 4S, 5, 5S/ 1199, 1199ABS, 1199S, 1199R........ blah, blah, blah. It's very commercialised.

The Desmo is an incredible unique and singular machine. The Panigale Superleggera is an incredible variant!

But to actually own, afford, service, run (dare to take on track days!) and live with day to day, I will still take my 1199S (Rrrrrrrrr when it gets here!!) over both.

Can I change my vote?!?!

I would go with the SL. Although if I had the money to buy an SL I would already own a Desmo. The Desmo is cool because it's one of a kind. There really isn't anything like it out there. The SL is basically an 1199R that is upgraded more. I like all of the new electronics on the SL. I love Ducati's so if I had the money I'd have both of them but unfortunately I can't afford either. At the end of the day if they were both brand new and sitting in front of me and someone said you can only have one I'd take the SL. (man that's a hard choice now that I think about it) hmmmmm.

SL for sure if it wasn't my money.

I'd sell it for an "R", and a used Desmo for the price of the SL.:)

Desmo is an awesome machine, but I like the lighter weight newer tech... Desmo looks mean though..........

This is a dilemma I've already faced.

I've got the R after having had the S. love both. Not good enough of a pilot to extract anything more with one over the other, but I can say that I love how quickly the R revs up and I've got it dialed in better with the suspension so it "feels better" than my S.

The SL came out...my impulsive nature said I gotta have it. Then a great deal on a DD came up...I gotta have it...

Went and started the DD and almost came in my shorts! What a beast. Sat on it. Drooled all over it.... Zero warrantee. Rebuilds equalling almost a semester of college tuition $$.

SL....what was I thinking? So glad that it wasn't on the floor...I woulda bought it and lived to regret it.

Didn't get either one.

I will continue to try and tame my R.... More bike than I can ever really hope to master.

Finally happy with my station in the motorbike world. :)

Desmo for me as it will never be again, or less likely. The SL will be the standard.

Wait, I don't really want it because of how expensive all the .... inside of it is and no warranty to cover it. SL will likely be A LOT cheaper to own and faster.

I vote SL.

Wait...

just got a email from ducati

just got notification from ducati that when the new desmosedici debuts they will release the new iteration for the public so yes new desmo coming out price will be 79,999

For collection? Desmosedici. It is a unique piece of art, while SL is a 'road bike on super-steroids'.

As an analogy, it is between a Classic limited edition Ferrari versus a significantly faster and newer factory-optioned Honda Civic race car.

If you want to ride/track it, probably SL is better.

I agree...DD deserve a place in each art museum...tech museum...motorbike museum

Who would win in a straight line race? v-twin or v4?

depends how long the straight is.. a buddy of mine has a 'optimised' desmo and can't shut up about the time he outpulled a semi works yamaha sbk on the straight in Barcelona..; but that straigth starts coming out of a corner at 190kph.. :)

Must have been "optimised" . Sounds like his quite good at outpulling .:)

its one of the rare ones who does 200 bhp.. when he got the bike, it only did 168... as the brochure stated otherwise, he hassled them and finally got some kit from corse and now it does work... :).; it keeps pulling over 300kph..

thats why it likes long straights.. :)

Everyone always states ( the SL new electronics) wheelie control isn't a big deal....... The hp4 launch control is a better feature I wish it had that!
