What was the reason you didn't wait till the magical 621 miles before you started with mods ?

NOLA

I started mods on the 1299S because I can never leave well enough alone. I've never owned a Ducati and Sebastian at MelilliMoto in Ocala, Florida gave me a killer deal on the Akro system and told me I need a RapidBike module. He also said I should run an MWR air filter. So, I was like, "Okay." I am not used to standard shift and I'm tall so I wanted a GP shift pattern and adjustability of the pegs so I got the Woodcraft rear sets ( but remember, the brake side from the 1199 fits the 1299 with no problem, the shift side does not fit the 1299 by just a tad because of that bolt head sticking out of the spar. We just grooved the backing plate out a tad to clear the bolt head.) It now fits. Since I used the Woodcraft rear sets, I now have GP shift and I didn't have to buy anything extra.

Ducati dealerships are definitely awesome, at least Sebastian's place is. It's just Sebastian, his wife, and a couple other guys there. The head mechanic spun wrenches for Danny Eslick and definitely knows how to prep and maintain a bike. Sebastian is old school and not high pressure at all. So, when he told me the mods to make, I did. But, Sebastian knows I will be racing the bike in WERA as soon as my bodywork gets here so I just went ahead and knocked it out.

The heat coming off that exhaust was cooking my right bum so I did what someone else on here suggested...we put the heat tape under the seat.

I know nothing about Rapid Bike modules but whatever that thing is doing, it's doing something right. Someone else on here will have to tell you where to buy one and how to install/tune it.

Peace.

Hey Leon! No, I will be in the mountains. I will miss Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta but I will race Roebling in July and VIR later. Also, I will make Road Atlanta in September. Looking forward to seeing you at the track.

Borge is going to run me out of Jennings when he hears the Akro system. There is just no way to describe the "depth" of that sound and it is loud.

Take care.

I will be at Roebling in July and VIR in August as well. I wish I was an expert so I could run against someone who knows how to handle that monster. I would like to see how the 1199 stacks up.

my understanding is that higher octanes do not = more power but with resistance to ignition thus allowing higher compression combustion, there was a whole discussion on the subject somewhere else in the forum. Ethanol reduces power because it maintains caloric power without affecting octanage. Lead has the opposite effect. In summary, you are better off with no ethanol gas than with higher octanes
exactly. ,well stated and right on the money. Basically our 91 octane makes less power than non-ethanol 91.

Cheers.

This.

And for this reason I drive 70 miles one way to stock up on 93 octane non-ethanol gas (8 metal 5 gallon jerry cans for long term storage and 8 more plastic for immediate use). I'm not sure of the proximity to everyone else but it is worth it if you look at the different characteristics of pure gas vs ethanol. Ethanol is a bio product so it goes bad...and quickly when exposed to air. It absorbs moisture readily. I don't think that is good for engines for some reason.

There is an iPhone app called Pure Gas that maps all available non-ethanol stations in the country. I use regularly on the road.

Ethanol gas is fine as long as you don't let it sit for too long, I always dump the stuff in my 300X jet-ski at the start of each season and always run 93

Getting this one up, just because I thing we don't need yet another thead...
After pushing oil into the air box, and getting a new overhauled engine, the 1299 did this :) 202 whp :)

Wow.!!!! Those are some stout numbers and very encouraging. It seems as if this bike can be left pretty much stock, just with bolt-ons and be within spitting distance of 200rwhp... Pretty damn impressive.

It absolutely can.

My 1299S with filter, full Akra EVO and RapidBike tuner made 202hp and 104.7ft/lbs at the wheel on U4.4 race fuel, tuned by Livengood Motorsports.

Correct.

Octane simply defines resistance to detonation.

Higher octane fuel does not give you more power. One of the biggest marketing schemes ever was when gas companies labeled 93 octane as "Premium". It leads to people thinking "only the best for my ...." and pouring 93 octane in vehicles/bikes/etc when the vehicle is not built/tuned for it.

93 octane fuel isn't better, it is just different. And if the vehicle isn't tuned/built for it, the only performance advantage somebody will gain by running "Premium" will be due to the reduced weight from a lighter wallet.

Higher performance vehicles need higher octane fuel because of their increased compression ratio. It isn't the higher octane fuel that gives the extra power, it is the higher compression. The higher octane fuel simply gives the motor the ability to utilize the higher compression without pre-detonation.
