Ear plugs

Iv'e been wearing earplugs for years. Never mattered what bike I'm on.

Its not the sound of the bike or the muffler, but more of the constant "WIND NOISE" that may affect your hearing in the future....

Never been the issue of loud pipes for me.....Its the darn WIND NOISE!

Same for me. I started wearing them about four years ago and regret I did not start sooner. I have custom moulded plugs now. They are no better for noise than $2.00 ear plugs, but they are a hell of a lot more comfortable. I also bought a Shoei GT Air helmet recently and it's by far the quietest helmet I have ever worn.

+1 on the GT Air...very quiet!

I have the Scala Q3 Bluetooth headset, with music on at a reasonable level with the GT Air I can hear just enough of the bike and what is going on around me to not have that isolated from everything feeling.

Get some custom ear plugs. They deal and are more comfortable than the foam ones. You can get a custom set made for $40. Audiologists can take a mold and make them.

Most of my riding is freeways, about 75 mph. Without earplugs, the wind noise is murder.

Well, to be honest, it becomes bearable without earplugs after about 5 minutes ... which I'm pretty sure is evidence that I need the earplugs :/

Most foam style roll ups are 22db NRR reduction. I prefer the 32db NRR foam plugs... They are so comfy and I can wear them all day. And if I lose em, I have a whole pocket of em for a couple bucks. Don't know that the custom plugs can do any better than 32db and I can't imagine any additional comfort.

Most importantly, wear ear protection!

triple flange plugs

Haha, for those who done a bit of shooting back in the 90's in the forces, those triple flange earplugs that came in the OD green case hung off your load bearing gear, that is what I was referring to. They cut noise by a very large amount, I believe 2-3 dB better than the foam disposable ones. They are not the most comfortable however.

I went down this route. Found them to be a waste of money, every time I swallowed they would come loose. They also weren't as comfortable as disposables. Noise reduction was about the same. Interestingly I had a set of SoundEar made at the same time for use with a Scala G4. They feel softer (possibly as they aren't solid) and they're excellent. Day to day haven't found anything to beat disposeable plugs though.

Those are the only ones I like. Once they are in they don't come loose and I do not like the foam roll up type as I can never get them in my ear properly.

Does anyone wear ear plugs while riding their 1199?
I got moulded noise plugs after the full system went on the R:cool:

I have some for shooting and after my ride yesterday I'm seriously considering putting them in. The full system Termi isn't super loud, but it's at the right frequency
