early 1199 no engine covers

They were provided as a recall service. Mine didnt have them either. You could surely get them or they have blingy carbon fiber ones now as well. Not very hard to install if you dont mind wrenching a little.
 
Thanks guys. I’ll call dealer. Is this recall still in effect? Actually I just want the parts. Will install myself. I don’t know what else besides the two covers is needed. I’m assuming some hardware etc.
 
Just got off phone with dealer. Said no open campaigns in my bike. 3 were done in 2016. He read them for me but none were for heat shield.

I asked if they had a kit part #. Will call me back. I guess could go with cf pieces too but not sure what else I need to bolt them in.
 
The original recall Included the engine covers as well as a different exhaust shield. I did the engine covers and kept the original exhaust shield on because the updated exhaust shield I thought looked bad.

Thanks! That’s what I want to do. Install both engine covers but leave the original slimmer exhaust shield. I don’t see anywhere on my engine to bolt the covers on tho. Does it need updated hardware (studs, bolts to replace existing ones that allow threading into) ?

I saw cf pieces that look like don’t bolt through. I’ll see what dealer says when they call back. Maybe can get a parts exploded view diagram.

i remember getting the heat shield work done for my 2012 1199s in june 2013. if you want to me to try to dig up the service order, i can go try to find it. iirc it wasn't a recall (which is why you may be coming up empty on the search) but maybe something else like a service bulletin. according to my brief notes, i don't see where i paid for anything to have the work done but for sure, my bike used to be hot (and yes i complained) and it has these tiny heat shields barely covering the engine and after the work was done, it was better. at first the new heat shields were a bit unsightly until we became use to them.

eta: got the heat shields a year after buying my bike.

You will need new bolts. Once the shields go in a couple of the fixings had to be longer to go through the shield and in to the cam cover. I have heard people having to loosen the sub frame to get them in/out?

Yes, you need 2 new bolts (both sides rear CH cover bolts) as well as 2 or 3 new screws. Subframe needs to be lifted and there is a wire on left side that needs to be slightly rerouted (at least when you remove those covers as I did). Easiest way to figure out which bolts and screws you need is to compare a spare part diagram from a 2012 e.g. with a 2014 models. Itbis a bite more work than what you would expect. Removed mine for better air circulation around the CH as well as for better look. I did not feel any increased heat to my legs from that and I am sure most of the heat you feel is from exhaust header.

Thanks for the offer. I will let you know if I need it. I'm gonna see if dealer will cover. If not I will hunt down parts.
 
Because it’s not a safety issue it’s technically not a recall and they have no obligation to give it to you, but I’m sure the parts can be bought.

My bike was a leftover 2012 that I bought new in April 2013. The dealer had just gotten their first “kit” in and put it on my bike when I made the deal on it but before I took delivery. I cannot imagine how hot it must have been without the kit because it still gets damn hot in stop and go driving in hot weather, which we have a lot of in Houston. Bit out moving at highway speeds it’s fine.
 
Bought mine new in 2012, and the heat shields were not yet available. Either at the 600 mile service, or the recall for the turn signal switch, dealer offered to put them on. I declined. Dealer gave the parts to me in a box. Tech said they had to at least deliver the parts.

So it's possible the previous owner had them sitting in a box somewhere.

Thank you. It's possible as I'm not original owner, hopefully dealer would have records. If that's the case maybe I will just get the aftermarket carbon ones depending on the fit. Read some don't fit/line up well.
 
Got off the phone with dealer. He said my bike dies not qualify for the heat shield/engine cover package. Called Ducati USA customer service, he took my last 8 digits of vin and said same. I asked why some 1199’s qualify and some don’t when all later models had them. He said bikes are built in batches and my batch is not affected. 2012 1199 with production date 4/2012. :(
