Riding down the road momentary red light on dash @ 6.00 then simultananeosly died. Smoke from battery area for about 5 sec's than no other visible signs.

Battery + cable to starter shorted out on front pipe heat shield, bike is dead, all fuses ok cannot find any other elec' short issues, I know their are 4 relays not able to check these, wondering if TFS dash & ECU might be fried ? Anyone have any experience or advice, was expecting to see some blown fuses :mad:

Pull the battery out check all the bolts for the battery holder make sure none of them are loose and that its still earthed .

Does the battery even charge or test anymore on a meter?

I would think there's some kind of a high amp fuse link between the + from the battery, the starter solenoid and the starter.

Either way, start with the battery and work downstream from there.

Battery is good, all fuses are good, because I have STTK long Termig' headers the front pipe bends towards the starter relay, turned that the + Battery cable was very close but not touching the heat shield of the front pipe, this time 3rd ride with this system on the insulation melted allowing intermittant shorting. Had it been a full contact short the damaged would have continued on.
With key on their is power though out the system but nothing works, lights fuel pump horn etc Dash is dead so I'm thinking this is the issue ? Hoping I could get away with a used unit.
Is the Immobilizer tied to that or just a separate system, basically asking if the dash is plug & play.

I spoke with Zohsix01 very helpful he's said that he has had
Similar issue in the past of melted shorted pos+ cables
he really doubted that the totally dead issue was any further upstream
although he said he might have spares parts in desperation they get running
so possibly ride this weekend I've ordered used spares along with
the starter relay which I am hoping is causing the dead elec' system fault ?

Here are the 2 melted cables

Good advice, someone left my battery wth loose connection. Great fun when going over bumps flashing red lights power surge and die!!
Took me a bit to figure it out

Up date 2 weeks ago I took to Northern Colorado Euro, the closest Ducati dealer to me with my return trip to ND for work. Wayne @ Euro told me they could not work on it for 1 week, that was ok, however it was obvious I needed the + battery cables and possibly starter reply, I said well can you atleast order these cables so we are not wasting any time, which was agreed upon. 1 weeks passes call service, Wayne says battery is good (I already new that) we need to order the battery cables by the time they come in and test the bike system again It will be -3 wks for them to hopefully tell me an accurate diagnoses

Already thinking I've made a mistake, should have taken it either Motocorsa or Omaha 100% Ducati !!!!

-22 days. I Just received a call from Wayne @ Northern Colorado Euro, they ordered the wrong battery cables !!!! so now another week of my time wasted, at least he called me so now I will wait another 7 days at which point they should be able to scan diagnose the system. why they can't may up some temp cables to test the system is beyond me.

So called techs are just parts changers these days

+25 Days @ dealer, diagnoses Tech believes the Ignition Switch is the cause, this seems to make sense as its this side of the fuses that no longer have power supply to them
I.e. Fuel Pump Ignition headlights ECU etc.
Now they have opened a warranty case with Ducati NA next step to see if Tech Warranty dept's agree with dealer techs diag' if so Ignition will be replaced if not then it goes to Factory Tech ask the dealers tech to check specific resistance of circuits for more detailed diag'

I hoping the best just an ignition switch ?

+ 28 days later @ Dealer. Based on pin out tests, fried ignition switch is the dianosis.
Ducati NA blames me for the installation of the SSTK headers so I'm on my own.
Waiting hear cost of ignition with the key re-programming.

I admit I have never fondled the sstk headers, but WTF do they have to do with an ignition switch?

Edit: should have read the first post.

I know I could make big fuss about it, but for Ducati NA to say I installed them which are listed in their accessory catalogue so it's my fault even though several other bikes have also melted + battery cables just make there 2 year warranty of no value

So I wait until tomorrow afternoon to see what they think the total bill is, so far I've only agreed to 2 hrs labour + cost cables & starter relay

if its more than $300. order the Panigale R li-ion battery. It comes with 2 new cables and you get a lighter battery! easy to install yourself.

Good news, it was just a $500 ...,,,! Ign Switch installed and fired right up
Haven't picked it up yet too busy with work but hopefully that's it problem solved
think total bill with battery wires, starter relay labour $1100 - 1200
