Empty original exhaust

OK....I'm not going to go into the mathermatics of building an exhaust...But there's 2 very important parts on the v4 headers that are critical for these bikes to run efficiently.....and other bikes and cars alike....THE COLLECTORS..see pic circled red. I'm sure Ducati spent a vast amount of time working out the width and length of headers and collectors to suit the bike. What you fit beyond the collector is up to you...If the collector has a specific internal bore I would stick with that...not undersize and not oversize.

Phl, absolutely...standard headers are built to serve purpose..when you start re configuring headers and collectors you are opening a big can of worms..

Phil, will your exhaust mod make the bike very loud and aggressive or more tame?
Will it shoot flames like my 1299 during upshifts?
Have you gotten your hands on one of these yet:

edit: looks like even the stock exhaust shoots flames, they seem not to be very audible tho
(5 minute mark)

Idc abt “emissions compliant” but I thought this vid was cool

louder.

Flames primarily come from the amount of fuel that is left unburned when the ignition is cut during upshift.

a less restricted exhaust will pronounce this effect

Jester, agreed. That’s why my mod is not just “gutting” but “carefully modding”

some would say it is an advantage tho have a mechanical engineering background when baking bread (old story from the AR discussions)

What causes the explosion? Is there a spark once the exhaust valve is open?

I thought/assumed the cats in the factory box would prevent fireballs, is this one you modified or are flames from the factory with a Type Approved exhaust common (for Ducati)?

I can’t get over the flames

well it says it right there...

Flames primarily come from the amount of fuel that is left unburned when the ignition is cut during upshift. (<-- unburnt air/fuel mix is going into the headers , next combustion cycle ignites them)

Guys, I have removed the catalysers from the stock exhaust and I'm gonna weld it back up. Looking back at it, you don't need to open up the exhaust to remove the catalysers. you can just try and drill from the openings and have it pulled out with the right tools !!! Some real man job wacking that thing out!

Video and dyno will share later when it is installed
