Engine cutting issue

Hi All,
I could really need some advise here. I am running a 1199SL and installed an IRC QS (up and down). Recently, I experienced that the bike starts to cut the engine randomly while riding in 1st and 2nd gear (worst with low RPMs) as if the quick shifter is trying to change gear by itself. Sometimes the engine cutting happens a few times in a row, making the bike very unpleasant to ride as it will jerk forward on engine cutting. When this happens, I do not have my foot on the gearlever. I tried experimenting with the Upshift Preload setting in order to avoid the cause just being too sensitive a setting. This did unfortunately not help. I realized that as long as I keep the clutch lever slightly pulled in (maybe approx. 80% released) the random cutting does not happen.

I would be grateful for any advise or ideas to what is going on.

Thank you

I'd take the bike for a ride with the QS unplugged.

When you are at that 80% clutch lever position, is the clutch switch engaged? If so, the ECU would be ignoring any signal received from the QS.

Thank you for your advise. I will try to disconnect the QS. Is the easiest just disconnecting the power plug to the QS and then go for a ride? Further, how do I know if the clutch switch is engaging when I use the lever? Sorry for the noob questions.

I had the same thing happen on my 1299 with hm quickshifter. Surging effect on the bike which was extremely dangerous especially at lean not to mention annoying af. Sent it back and using oem qs again. Not a fix but I won’t be going near a strain gauge shifter again.

Thank you for the info. Happy to hear someone else have experienced this. Did you ever discover what the issue was? Tempted the pull off the QS as well, but as the 1199 does not have downshifting from standard, I would have to figure out what to get instead (that works)

It worked fine for about 1500km on the road then suddenly started playing up one day. It was definitely a faulty sensor however I’m not sure how it became damaged. Likely overheated as the day it went I was on a long ride, however it wasn’t installed in a position where it ever got excessively warm. Just one of those things I didn’t want to waste time pursuing unfortunately.

Sounds exactly like the experience I am having. Worked flawlessly in the beginning, and now just acting up all the freaking time. Really frustrating.

Otherwise I guess I need to dig into if any of the Ducati OEM QS will work with the 1199

Yes, it is that easy. Just unplug it and go for a ride. It may produce an error light, but that's not so much of a problem. Was the OEM shifter up and down? On the 1199 it was down only but I don't know if the SL is different.

There are two types of clutch switches. One works off of hydraulic pressure. It will look like a fitting/bolt on the hydraulic line with a wire running to the bike. The other is a lever microswitch. There would be part of the clutch lever that makes physical contact with the lever on the switch.

If you have access to any diagnostic tools which will plug into the bike and read the CAN bus, you can see if the clutch switch is actuated or not.

I know there’s an option in the menu to turn the quickshifter function on or off on the 1299. I imagine the same option is available on the 1199 so that might be worth a go.

Thank you. The OEM on the 1199SL was up only. I will try to disconnect the QS and see if the manual gear chaining works. If all good on manual, I will see if IRC can advise.

I will definitely try. I don't know if that will work for the IRC QS as well or only applies for the OEM version.

Managed to disable the QS in the ECU setting and went for a ride. So far so good when running manual shifting, so guess it is the IRC QS which is giving me issues. Still scratching my head on what the issue is, but maybe I just have to boot the system and see if there is a better alternative out there.

seems like QS are basically consumables...my OEM is going out at 10k miles...still wondering what i'm going to replace it with...stock oem is 450$

shut up....looking into that now
