Lately I've heard an occasional engine noise that sound like a knock. Sound seems to come up from the front of the gas tank but that could be my helmet messing with my hearing. Best I can describe it would be gear backlash...like extra play with the clutch engaged. Holding the clutch down the driveway no noise. Sitting in neutral or in slow traffic, occasional noise.

Wanted to see if there was any thoughts before I ride up to the dealer and have them check it out. My 1098 had a tight transmission. Bike off in gear I only had about a foot rolling front to back. 1199 has double. Bike is '12 Tri with 3,200 miles.

Mines done this knock since new.

I think its coming from the expansion of the exhaust cans during heat up and cooling.

People i ride with even notice it at stop lights and when I start it up from cold.

It sounds like a rod knock for a second. Its an abnormal sound and doesn't happen it any type of frequency. Its just random. My dealer said they don't hear anything.

Wife and I probably looked like a couple goofs when I fired it up this morning. 90 percent sure the sound is associated with the clutch in some way. Doesn't do it when I squeeze the clutch. I'll probably drop it by the dealer overnight just to be sure.

Funny how damned loud the engine is on the bike. And if anything, it's got louder as the miles increase. And to think I had missed the sound of a dry clutch :).
