Hello ,
My 1199 developed a fault which I have been unable to identify , even my local dealer says he has not heard of it before !
I was out on the bike on Saturday , and was sat at a junction waiting to make a turn. As I went to pull off the bike stalled. I tried to restart , the engine turned over, but would not start. I then noticed petrol was coming out under the bike.

The engine turns over, the fuel pumps working, and the fuel injection but the fuel is discharged straight out of the overflow pipe
I have taken the tank off , but could not find any loose /split fuel lines.

Any ideas please ??

the stalling is a common thing unfortunately and the hard start is also a common thing lol

My bike did something similar to yours but it was 2 parts. The first time it stalled as i was waiting to turn but she fired right up, now she has a hard time starting after shes been ran and shut off(ie. getting gas or stopping for drinks) and requires some throttle input while cranking to fire up.

The stalling from what i read has not been solved but the hard starting is supposed to be the charcoal canister which there is a thread on here on how to remove it. I didnt so each time i restart her while the engines hot i have to give it some gas. Good luck

I was having that problem ALL THE TIME. You should really remove the canister if you can. It fixes the issue immediately!

Weird thing was it never happened for the first month and then all of the sudden it was EVERY time:(. I was going to remove the charcoal canister but i got scared with the "how to" lol. The little bit of throttle input while cranking is working but im sure ill do that removal soon.

Once you overfill the tank, the excess fuel goes into the charcoal canister. This causes an overly rich condition while trying to start it. Get rid of the canister.

1299 or 1199.

My 1299, as well as 2 friends who own 1299s are spitting fuel all over the place. The tank hisses and the fuel boils as well. We all had 1199s and never had these issues.

For mine it doesnt matter if the tank is near empty or full, When i shut her off after shes been ran she aint starting without some throttle input. I know the canister is to blame but its not because i overfill.

Thanks guys, mine is a UK bike, so does not have the charcoal filter.
Fuel is basically pumping straight out of the air box breather. switch the ignition on, fuel pump primes and dumps the fuel.
Thanks Twistedracer, I did try starting the bike with the tank lifted, making sure the breathers were free, but had the same result:(

Definitely a problem.

Once the canister is saturated it doesn't matter what your fuel level is. Sounds like deleting the canister would be beneficial for you. I removed my canister around the 400 mile mark and had made sure never to completely top off prior to that.

Ahhh gotcha, Thanks for the clarification. I'll definitely do it this year.

For the canister topic, the problem lies in not having a solenoid valve to regulate regeneration of the charcoal canister, therefore an uncontrolled (from ECM) approach. curbing emission is an after-thought concern for Ducati perhaps....

The 1299 has the solenoid/switch/sensor. It's still a problem.
Now when you bypass you leave the sensor attached to the harness so you don't get a warning light.

Is there any known correlation between this overly rich condition caused by the canister and fouled plugs? ie. a flooding scenario in a carbureted system...

Back in the late 70's early 80's there were problems with carbureted cars with these evap systems at times.
