Who's arguing?

I didn't build my house but I sure AF didn't pay another man to put in a backsplash.

All the prior talk about kids etc., have them help. They won't remember how many hours you put in at work to pay for the house or the bike but they will remember working on the house or bike with you.

Poorly worded on my part. I meant that it would be pointless to argue about it.

It’s certainly nice to spend time with your kids doing productive stuff though. That’s a far better reason to do something than doing it just to save some money, unless you need to of course.

Unfortunately, doing things yourself often seems to often be the only way to get the job done correctly (and to know it’s been done correctly).
 
YouTube’s algorithm is uncanny. R1 looks a treat to work on. Also good series on how to convert the road bike to track.

 
There are really good videos out there. I know Motivation has one, might be for a SFV4, once you get the fairings off it should be pretty much the same. I would highly encourage watching the videos a few times.

Concur. Pretty straight forward after getting the fairings off. Unfortunately the online available service manuals don’t address fairing removal even if fairly simple. The Evotech instructions are adequate but fail to address one significant issue: the upper inner cowl(s) that allows access to other fairing screws holds the spring loaded triple clamp air deflectors in place to allow their free pivot with steering movement.

First time I moved the bars to get access to screws on the inner fairing by the front wheel it broke one of these deflectors in half. They are part of the whole radiator guard fairing assembly and a major PITA if you want to remove and replace the deflector. I’m sure it’s part of the high speed aero design on the bike, however completely out of sight and probably can live without so remaining bit taped up out of the way with black gorilla duct tape 🤦‍♂️

If you want to do it completely right need to tape the deflectors out of the way while installing. The SFVR does not have these bits

Edit: I used youtube to help with the fairings until i got the hang of it on the panigale. There are a few screws below the turn signals on the inside that I would have missed and cracked loose if I didn't know they were there. I've also forgot to put the screws back in inside the wheel well by the radiator, only to notice later. I put all the scews in cups now and label them; develop a system, makes it much easer.


I just did this install recently on my V4R, I only used the evotech supplied printed instructions. Coming off the full Akra install I thought it was fairly easy. You definitely need to take your time. I don't recall having to tape anything out of the way... It's tight, but I didn't remove the front wheel or much of anything, I just got the radiators away from the cowl and slid them in. The one plastic cowl bracket is tough to get around, I know the one side is easier than the other to slip the top piece in. Sorry to hear you broke something. If I learned anything with these bikes, it's just go super slow, walk away, look at everything twice, make sure no screw is missed, never force something.
 
Fortunately I laid all the screws out in order as I removed so don’t miss any, and no left overs 😳. I didn’t have to remove the front wheel, it was moving it side to side that caused the issue with the deflector on one side

When you say deflector, are you talking about the spring activated flaps near the suspension, near the yoke where you tie the bike down?
 
Yes, parts manual calls it a deflector, crunched and broke one 😠 have to take the entire radiator shroud off to fix and replace. I can live without it. I’m sure it has some ultra high speed aero benefit but at street speeds guessing not noticeable, or even my track level 🙄

I would guess that part is to stop some road ..... getting thrown up in your face?
 
We're trying to make him feel less bad about breaking it.. not bombard him with accurate information.

Yesh, .... the feelings. The flaps are for aerodynamics which obviously won’t matter if you don’t know why they're there.
 
Perhaps, however no other bike I’ve had other than a Panigale has had them and was never an issue

Well, you're about to find out how it's the most important, indispensable part of the bike. I would say Ducati discussion is second to ball breaking on this forum. ;)

Quite familiar already. Technically they are updraft air deflectors. Not exactly robust pieces so I’m guessing the effect is not too substantial, however if I notice a negative effect I’ll suck it up and reinstall
