Evotech radiator guards (upper and lower)

No, as in the damage to radiators that need replacement seems to be the internals cracking from the inside vs external debris damaging the fins and damaging the radiator from the outside.

Must admit I've not heard of radiators failing from internal cracking, surely that would be a design flaw? I would imagine it would also be fairly well publicised! I've had a couple fail over the years and each one has been stone damage.

Back to the Evotech guards - no difference in temperature, very happy with them. I'm sure the Cox guards are good but if I'm paying that amount of money for a guard then I don't expect to have to take a Dremmel to it!

This is not a "problem" per se, just a note from the techs that they have seen more radiators being replaced because of that vs front impact damage. . .

But agree with your cox racing assessment. Unfortunately for installation that is not the case. You will need a dremel on a particular place to get it to fit.

Got the Evos yesterday and installed them last night... took all of 10 min...... not sure where the 3 hours came from (Anthem) it was 4 screws and fitted nice and snug....... I will drop you all an update on the temp variation if any......

p.s. the difference in the black out in the front wheel arch is great looks great as well....

I just installed the R&G radiator guards on mine, the radiator was already getting pitted up with rock dings after 5 track days. These are nice aluminum guards with a seamless frame, seem to be pretty strong, and I think they look good being black in color.

Jarel, in your opinion would you say the R&G is better than the Evo tech?

I haven't seen the Evo Tech in person yet so I'll reserve judgement. We have a shipment of the Evo Tech ones on the way, so I'll see them soon. I'm usually impatient so I always buy whatever is the first one I can get my hands on! ;)

My reference was to the Cox Racing ones. Just because the Evo's take 10 minutes doesn't mean the Cox racing ones don't take a couple hours. ..

Evotech made a good tail tidy so I gave them the nod for the radiator guards as well. I also think the black might tidy the look of the radiators as well as protect.

Fully agree... the black does look good. Went out for a long ride yesterday and I did note a slight increase in temp by the ambient temp was high anyhow..... no issues with the Evos on my side, although I did opt for the DP tidy tail which fits well (apart from the missing screws that we know about).... all in all good choice !! (so far.....)

Got a set of the radiator guards. I got a question thought. Did yours come with instructions and the foam pads? Because mine just came with nothing except a card inside. Also is the upper guard suppose to be flat? Mine has a bend to it. I'm asking because I can lay the lower flat on the table but the upper has a bulge like a raised surface. It's brand new and it doesn't look like its been used. Is it suppose to be like that?

Thanks

When I design cooling systems for indoor diesel generator systems, I have to oversize the cooling air intakes and exhausts 30% for louvers, 50% for screens.

So yes, the protective screen covers DO make a difference. As long as you're having good results, rock on. But note that they absolutely do reduce airflow through the radiators. Not likely a big deal at speed, but I want my bike to cool as quickly as I can get it to, after traffic stops.

Grinding on the radiator is meh, so Cox is out IMO.

I've had the Cox on my Street Triple R for 4 years including lots of track days--no problems.

I have the Evotech on my my Panigale ('13 R). I like the ease of installation and appearance of the Evotech, but I did have to replace the top radiator guard after about 6 months went the upper left mounting flange broke. The guard did not come loose nor was it in danger of falling off--but that never happened with the Cox on the Street Triple R. I wasn't bothered by it enough to switch--I'm still using the Evotech on the Panigale R.

Use the 10% off code that EvoTech gave me last week when ordering direct fron EvoTech. I just installed the upper and lower guards on my Pikes Peak. Outstanding product and even better customer support.

Grinding on the radiator? I have Cox guards that were installed by Mr. Cox himself and there was no radiator grinding but there was some slight grinding on the plastic in front of the radiator as there is not enough room at the bottom for the guard to fit between. IMO the Cox guard is a better product with the material that is used and the design does not effect the airflow as much as the Evotech. When I was at his shop he was working on a revised version to eliminate the space issue and need to grind the plastic.

Yeah, I'll wait until he fixes that. I'm not grinding down there. The spot of the bike catches my eye.

He should get rid of the Cox logo as well. That's kind of an eyesore. No one cares who made a screen.

Evo tech are great light and strong, fitted to several bikes, my first pani guard broke Evo tech had already changed design and sent me a new on in 24 hrs excellent service

Does your upper guard have a raised center? Meaning its not perfectly flat?

Have installed them but not ridden the bike since, so don't know yet. I have them fitted to all the bikes nowadays a great piece of kit tbh.
