Feel the burn and she hates traffic

Hi
I picked up my new Pani S yday, rode 400+ miles on her to get home and two of the most instant things I noticed (especially with having the full Termi system fitted):
A) I have a burn the side of a 10c piece on my inner right thigh
B) I need to fit the 41T sprocket ASAP as around town she is a pig, spluttering and yanking on the leash like a demented Rottweiler.

I know the bike is not meant for stop start traffic and that a 41T conversion will fix this instantly (did it on all my other Ducati's too) so Im not too worried there. Will go 525 chain and probably the 15T front OEM sprocket too.

But the heat ! - even with the lined CF heat shield, its literally a moving BBQ. This cant be tolerated, I was going to get the whole system powder coated anyway but now it looks like Ceramic coating will be needed to try and cool the pipes and stop my leg from being a nice medium rare.

I did read here a while back that Ducati were looking at the heat issue and were going to come up with a new heat shield or something - any updates on that ?

Cheers

Do you have the older heatshield?

I had the old shield and it flat baked me.

The new shield along with wrapping the exhaust has made it much better then bone stock, and tolerable in summer conditions.

all I've read is that the wrapping is waste of time, degrades over a very short period of time and is ill advised by dealers.
I have the carbon heat shield as thats all that fits the full termi system, to my knowledge there is only this one available to me - am I wrong ?

- am I wrong ?

Yes. There are two full termi carbon HS

You will know the difference this way.

First shield was short and only covered to the bottom of pipe, and had no inner shield, just a glued metallic looking tape. A lot of heat could get to your right leg.

Second, CF shield covers almost down to peg on throttle side of bike, and has inner metal shield.

all I've read is that the wrapping is waste of time,

false.

Night and day difference.

If you buy cheap crap, it might.

Ceramic coating is better, yes. But that is not what I am arguing.

Wrapping is better then nothing and after a summer of riding, my wrap still looks like new.

I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago but on both inner thighs after going on the local toy run.

After about half an hour of very slow riding I got off the bike and could barely walk. Started out with pretty much my entire inner thighs having a burn like rash and ended up with an actual burn, with blisters, on my right thigh.

I'm seriouslu looking at coating my exhaust now!

Not quite. That motor really *really* doesn't like being below 5k rpm and the higher you keep it in the rpm's the smoother it responds - much more so than any previous Ducs.
The 41t will help to keep it up in the RPMs. But it's also going to take some practice in keeping a light, steady, smooth throttle before you'll see much improvement.
Smooooooooth throttle control coupled with with higher up in the RPMs is what will tame it.

I commute every day on my '14 Base. I went the cheaper route and went with 14T up front and she's still a "pig" under 5k rpm imho haha. I am getting the the throttle remapped and hopefully that cures the surginess and annoying studdering under 5k.

Thanks for all the responses guys, thrashing it out like this is exactly what a forum is for. 41T has always served me well on my other Ducs so will go that way on the Pani too - will then need the software remap too once done.

Outhouse - thanks so much for the pics, makes it so much easier to visualise when theres a pic to refer to. Ok so my HS is clearly #1 and I can see the improvement with the second one. Looks like I need a CF version of number two - I guess for this DP charges the cost of a small European nations national debt !!

There is a huge difference with the second and wrapping or coating.

It is a night and day difference.

I would not ride it on a summer day without changing it out. It really is a dysfunctional shield.

Now you know you get the second shield free right? It was changed out in a recall. Time to call up your nearest dealer and set up an appointment. ALL free.

You just may need to use heat tape on your right said fairing to keep it from melting, it will trust me.

apparently (so says Ducati New South Wales) it was not a mandatory recall. If the customer went in and complained they would source a new HS.

I have to call the Service Manager tomorrow...Im already getting the feeling this wont be an easy fix with the dealer.

Bet they pull the "you bought this second hand so Ducati accepts and has no liability...."

Hope you get it sorted out. The 2nd generation shield does make a huge difference.

...."

Nope, well known and they fix it every time, by all accounts posted over a year. Just make sure you have a receipt for the system.

Good luck with the local Ducati dealership Wolf. In my experience with both Harley and Ducati you are getting fark all!

Frasers are the worst arnt they - ZERO customer support, once they sell you the bike you are on your own.
Never met anyone that has a good thing to say about Frasers - and yet three friends all bought Ducati's there the last 12 months - they have you over a barrel.

WISH ME LUCK !

The day after I pick up the Ducati a fuel sensor failed. They organised for my bike to be collected and fixed, all good. Then I noticed they had somehow put a couple of small scratches on the black display surround.

Ducati Australia (NFI) denied the warranty claim as it didn't come out the crate that way apparently.

Fraser's told me I could buy a peice of carbon fibre and cover the screen surrond and they would take the cost off my first service.

I'm sure you could imagine where I told them to shove the peice of carbon fibre!

After three days they came back to me said the screen would be replaced and one would be ordered from Italy, up to six weeks. It "turned up" within a week.

Similar sorts of story with HD as well.

What do we really expect when the importers of the bikes are also the seller!

You need more than good luck my friend!

yeah, sadly these stories are all to common with Frasers mate and now they are the official distributor of Ducati they are a law unto themselves. No-one else in a monopolistic market so they really can do whatever they want to - or at least they think/believe they can.

Is it too much to ask for some common sense, genuine customer service and a dealer that actually gives a toss about brand recognition and loyalty ???
