My '14 R came with the vertical cylinder covers for each side. We ride year round and see temps as high as 115 degrees in Borrego Springs. I really didn't notice any difference between having the covers on or not. I like the look with them off the best.

With Vertical Cylinder Covers:

Without Vertical Cylinder Covers:

I agree. I think those cylinder head covers look terrible. I have a 12 model and never went for the upgrade. I always wear leather pants riding and have never been burnt by the bike.

The bike looks far better without those covers and heat shield number two looks awful as well.

Agreed, I have never been burnt either. I did use the Motul MoCool this summer, with it I did notice that the bike even in extreme ambient heat never gets above 221. It mostly stays in the 180-190 range while driving and around 219 by the time the temp starts to drop while stopped. My fans come on at 217 and off at 212.

I just got my bike and had some of the same exact problems. The biggest cheapest thing I did to get rid of the "Chugginess / Hesitation" at low RPM?

ETHANOL FREE GAS! Made a Huge Difference! Try it!

The burnt leg problem? Haven't mastered that one yet. Going to get mine Ceramic Coated.

Well credit where credit is due, my local stealership did fit the new HS for me as part of the recall for $0.00.

Thanks for all your help on pursuing this and reminding me it was at zero cost.

Now just DESPERATELY need a 41T conversion to sort out the lumpy around town low rpm riding.

As someone posted above "NON-ETHENOL GAS" and of course any updated map from Ducati.

Mine is happy from 3000 rpm. No problem in 15 mph school zones in first gear without feathering the clutch. Maybe I got lucky but no problems with mine as long as you keep it at 3000 rpm and above even in 6th gear.

I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago but on both inner thighs after going on the local toy run.

After about half an hour of very slow riding I got off the bike and could barely walk. Started out with pretty much my entire inner thighs having a burn like rash and ended up with an actual burn, with blisters, on my right thigh.

I'm seriouslu looking at coating my exhaust now!

The same thing happened to me here in Brisbane yesterday, I have a blister that is about 20 mm lomg and 5 mm wide on my right thigh. Didn't realise until about an hour after I got my Draggin jeans off and the redness subsided a bit that I had a blister.

Ive been burned a few times as well. I have scars from the blisters as well. Def coming from the cylinder head. I dont notice any heat from the rear exhaust but I do have ver 2 heat shield. I'm thinking about going back to the orig for looks, but Idk. might be time to upgrade to the 1299 in '16

Because the bike with the same overall size that is 100cc's more would run cooler?

I wasnt complaining. I was simply mentioning that I have been burned a few times as well. Maybe the bike could have been designed better when it comes to the heat, IDK. Im just adding my 2 cents that stop and go traffic in the summer is a b****.

I knew what the Pani was before I bought it and expected to be a hard uncompromising b**** to ride in slow traffic. Im still kinda young so i'm happy with it for now.

As far as upgrading, What I meant was I dont wanna waste time taking off the heat shield and putting the old one on if Im just going to sell it soon.

Dude, I'm 36 and I don't mind it one bit. Its not a cruiser. ;)

Maybe being taller my legs aren't that close to the cylinder head, but I've never had blisters from that. I even took off the heat shields from the cylinder head.

If anything, I get heat from contact with the subframe. Eventually, I'll probably buy some carbon fiber covers for it, or find another way to deal with it. The 899 has a plastic cover which is shaped like the subframe of the 1199, as the 899 just uses a tubular frame. I wonder if they can be adopted as heat shields for the 1199.

On the 1299, the exhaust loop heat shield is the same size as on the 899. It seems Ducati ditched the large bulbous one from the late 1199s. I bought one from a 899 owner to replace my large(er) one.

The early 1199 exhaust shields were just painted stamped metal. The later 1199s were think metal inner with a plastic outer and an extended shape on the right side. The 899, and it appears the 1299, sports the profile of the original 1199, but retains the double wall construction of the later 1199.

Insulating the subframe seems to make a big difference according to those that have.

H, the kit comes with adhesive and a few heat reflective strips. Just put the strips in and use the adhesive to stick them on

I dont mind the heat either. I must admit though, when I first bought the bike, I was warned and was quite shocked at the amazing amount of heat it puts out. I think now Im just used to it. Just like the stock seat. My ... was sore for days after that first long ride. Now Im used to the rock solid feel lol. You are right though. FARTHEST thing from being a cruiser that is for sure -- wouldnt have it any other way!
