Finally A New Rear Tire Other Than Supercorsa SP

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Power 3 (like the power Pure it replaces) would be perfectly ok in he wet. It is designed as Road-1st-track-2nd tyre.

Power Supersport is ok-ish, meaning it would survive just fine for commuting but don't pretend you're rossi in the wet.

I've used both, on 848 with no DTC.

Thanks. Ill give the supersports a shot later. If anything, a good excuse not to ride in the rain lol.

Those were all Michelin Power-1's -- the tread design is the give away -- they've since been discontinued....the Cups or Super Sports are valid replacements -- for those wanting to know, the Cup 200 measures a full inch wider than the Pirelli, so a 190 might be worth a look

Wow...my shop said their vendor said the 200's weren't available until the beginning of Feb for order. NICE!!!

WE ARE EXPECTING A FULL REPORT as soon as they're mounted and tested :D

Already burned off 2 sets of Cups - 200/55 - i haven't checked on the Super Sport, as the Cups are way too much fun

The 200/55, as mentioned, measures a full 1 inch wider than the stock Pirelli 200, and unless you're on the track, i don't see (i haven't been able) to edge the tire, meaning there is plenty of unused rubber left on both sides - i will go to a 190 for the next set -- the 200 also slowed the steering tremendously, which i honestly did not like....the 190 should be better (closer to actual width of the stock Pirelli which is 9.5") , or 190 with a V front, although the V profile front might be (definitely would be) a bit too flighty under hard acceleration...granted, street riding only, means its more manageable so i may try a V up front

The Pirelli was absolutely a great tire for me, but having been addicted to the tenacious grip of the Power-1 from years ago, the Cups provided the awesome feedback the Power-1's did, continuously...so being addicted to that, after the Pirelli burned off i spooned on the Cups....."yum yum" !!

I would advise against the V profile up front, especially for the road. I ran them and had terrible headshake at speed. I needed to lower the rear and raise the front a bit to compensate, and it still didn't take it away 100%.

The Panigale is very picky to geometry changes.

i would tend to agree with you for sure - under hard acceleration the front can get "interesting" :)

-- in fact if i remember, didn't you post a head shake issue when you first mounted them...as your shop mounted a V without you being aware ? (if it wasn't you, i know it happened to someone on here, and the V was the culprit)

So I've read that the Q3s are close enough to run on the rear. But the front is a larger diameter. What has to be done to the suspension to correct this? I just had the Q3s installed and the front felt very different weird even.

I am not aware of any issues.... Mine are fine... are you sure it isn't in your mind???:)

The ride height didn't have to be changed because the circumference is larger on the Q3 as opposed to the supercorsa

Now have about 4k miles on Q3's. Like the front end feel much better than Pirellis.

They work nicely. No plans on going back to Pirelli

Same here :)

Also, thanks to mark419ny on his earlier post, i remembered the notes on the dimensions that would essentially match Pirelli's 200 profile and went to replace Pirelli SPs with the set of Q3s (190/55 rear) half way through the ride day on Phillip Island the other day. The bike felt planted and much better seated through the corners then Pirellis. Bike would drop in quick but this time the drop would be controlled and nervousness that i had with SPs were totally eliminated with Q3s. After three sessions the surface got barely scratched with the new tyres indicating much longer life. Considering the price difference of AU$610 Pirelli vs $460 Dunlops for the pair, the purchase was spot on.

Day later, the street riding confirmed the same observations i had on the track - the same corners that would make Panigale quite 'nervous' with Pirellis now felt totally stable giving you that extra confidence to drive harder.

i am quite happy with the Q3s and have no intentions going back to the 'premium' option :D .

thanks just making sure. the bike seemed to "roll" over into the corners, when the Pirellis were on it seemed to "drop" or "fall" into the corner. and felt different in very slow stuff. like parking lot speeds.

I don't ride that slow.....lol:p

Haha smart ass. Just noting it felt funny at that speed. Almost like how a scooter with smaller dia wheels initiates a turn.

You're still not going fast enough:rolleyes:

I suppose for a scooter rider, it would feel pretty fast though:D
