Bayliss on the 1199

Admin, can you please create a sticky thread for the "1199 Test Yas Marina" for all related content to go in?

Cheers,

Harry.

Oh, and here's a pic of Bayliss....

... that despite the success of the 1198 - not least in the hands of David Checa in World Superbikes....

duc - I think Ben was referring to David's brother, Carlos. Don't you hate it when you publicly confuse siblings?

hi harry, have you signed up for one of these yet ?

Well it's official. My Termi headers are getting ceramic coated black. That stainless looks terrible after a few heat cycles.

Other than that, I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve...even though Christmas won't be here for a couple more months...after reading the reviews.

Hi Daz,

No not yet, I want to ride it first and may hold out for the "R" version.

Do you still have the Tricolore on order?

Cheers,

Harry.

tricolore is cancelled mate.....do you think if we buy two 1199R's together we'll get a cheaper deal :D

First Ride Report

Great review Ben very interesting reading. Now just can't wait for my Panigale to arrive.

Great idea! I am to order 2 1199 Panigale S. You're post gave me a second thought. I might order 1 S and wait for the R version.

Any idea when the R will be available? tnx

Great review, good first impressions. Just however raises one concern for me. I love my v-twins, I love the instant thump, the vibrations, the feeling. I have a 4 cylinder race bike (2011 GsXR) which is fine on track but lacks any soul. My 1098 has soul in buckets and that is down to it feeling like a v twin. Really hope the 1199 doesn't lose that in the persuit of perfection. I don't want perfection, want a Ducati!

Compared to the MCN "like the sun without the tits and jokes" review this is very interesting. I did not realise they were also doing a speedway version and entering Mr Bayliss for next year as well.
It has been confirmed that the new engine will be used in the other steel trellis bikes as well with modified engine cases. Question is though how much more product diversity they will build in. They now are using three chassis types scross all bikes (trellis, monocock, ali beam), four engines (air cooled, testastretta, fryingpan and V4) in three different configs (though the frying pan engine will replace the outgoing 1198 and 848. Back into Supersport as well. How much more GP12+ will filter down the range. Clearly much of the electronics has. How long a development life does the knew engine life have, not likely 20 years as the 916 engine has had.
Compact V4? Beefed up frying pan engine for the GP12, possibly not because it would have to drop 200 cc's and make another 50 plus BHP.
However ducati have always been very good at keeping the bike components as similar as possible and pragmatically filtering down changes.
IMHO I think Ducati have been slow to see the GP12 as an isolated GP prottype and simply built whatever bike that will win from day one. Honda dont use a v5 anywhere else. Ducati started by making a WSB bike on steroids, likely because they could not do it anyother way. But by the time Burgess and Rossi have finished how much of that bike could be used elsewhere?

I have heard there is not going to be a R and the Tricolore is the top of the range. If someone knows any different I am all ears as I would definetly wait for that.

Dude, it's the first year of production. Was there a 1098R announced for the 2007 model year? No.

I am just going by what a friend said and he is close with Ducati Racing and runs the Ducati shop near me.....something to do with to many # needed to homologate them for racing these days.
