Don't change your mind because of anything you have read on this forum or any other. From personal experience, I was second guessing my choice with all the less then positive reviews and issues with heat etc.
I don't lay down this kind of money for a bike everyday and especially the S/abs model.
Well, I picked up the bike three days ago and although this is not a review I just want to say to you guys waiting, KEEP THE FAITH! This bike will not let you down. Set it at 195hi/race mode and enjoy. She is a temperamental beast but brings the joy and sport of riding to you at lightning speed. I've had many bikes, Hayabusa, Ducatis etc. But this bike is art in motion.
I don't say this often but the bike exceeds expectations in every area. I can't stop looking at the bike.
Anyway, worth the wait my friends.

like seeing more of this type of attitute towards the bike. some folks just want the press deems best. others, use what they read and based on that make a decision. I'm with you. This bike (and its few shortcomings) from all asspects (to me) is just so unique and separate from ever other bike that pulls up to you on the track or street. Ducati took a chance with this bike and as many of you know, and part of that (to me) is the appeal. Sure the RSV 4 and S1000 RR is faster, etc. and if that's the reason you choose to make that purchase, so be it. For me, every time I throw a leg over this, start it or happen to actually get it threw a correct correctly it's an endless smile.

Very good to hear this from a historical NON Ducati guy! Glad you stuck it out and are now enjoying all the features on this thing! There is SO MUCH you can do and play with setting to get it the way which is best for you!
Ride hard and be safe my friend!

Good to hear that you love the bike madeinitaly. Enjoy. I feel the same. All the big bikes are good, their all fast and approach the whole sport bike experience from varying angles. So each to their own.

For me the design and tech on the bike is a big deal. I'm not going to be trying to break the sound barrier everytime I take it out and won't have time to teak it too much.

Everyone seems to getting to know their bikes better and your view is shared by all.

Happy days.

I am close to purchasing.I am doing Major online research about this bike.
I demo'd a Base this past saturday and came away with mixed emotions.
I love the styling.
I love the engine.
I hated the Mirrors(great view of my shoulders)
I hated the foot pegs.
Didn't and won't mind the Heat.
I would have to get used to the Vibrating
I felt awkward on the turns.(probably need more time to adjust)
I don't care about poor fuel mileage.
Agonizing over Base vs. S
I spend every minute of my day thinking about this bike.
I am wondering just how much better of a road experience having the S upgrades over the base. I will not be commuting or be in traffic. It will be for occasional high speed back road riding with other sport bikes on early sunday mornings with some considerable amount of straight line riding.

I researched like crazy and had so many second thoughts I would hate to admit them all.
Footpegs are easy to change. Mine are fine for what I do. Fuel mileage has been averaging between 27-30 for my spirited riding, not horrible with a 4.5 gallon tank. I put in 4.22 today. Base is awesome machine. I would spend the 5K on personal upgrades if you are so inclined.

Heat is annoying for me, but I forget about it as soon as the road turns left or right.
Mirrors don't seem bad, but every sportbike has ...... mirrors.
I would recommend you replace your seat. Stock one is too hard and too slippery. Too hard for straight line riding. Too slick for hard acceleration above 8K.
I love the vibrating, that's a nice side effect of Twins.
Not sure what you mean by awkard in the turns. Mine handles great.

Chris

nice to be reading this from someone who is very much in the same situation as me. i am from singapore and waiting for my S/ABS model to arrive. this will be my first Duc. had ridden a variety of jap bikes like hayabusa and also currently own a MV Agusta F4 1078.

had been reading quite a number of negative aspects of this bike. but just fell so deep in love with the styling, and very much wanted to try a V Twin and to have the experience of riding a top of the line sportsbike in my very lifetime. before reading all the negative remarks (heat, hard starts, recalls etc) i was very much determined to get this piece of machine.

Ironically, after getting in to this forum and reading the posts, i started to doubt. i know this is one bike that ducati built from ground up so a few hiccups here and there are expected. but i really hate to be at the end of rectifying those glitches. its painstaking. i guess that is a price to pay (on top of the cost of the machine) to ride one of the world's best bike?

The more you read the more you will doubt the decision and even when you do get the bike eventually you won't be 100% happy with your purchase since you will still be doubting about all those things.

If you love the way this bike makes you feel then go for it.

I've never ridden anything but Hondas and R1's. I haven't even ridden the 1199 yet and have just heard it a few times. But you know if this is worth it for yourself.

Don't expect perfection cause this bike won't be. But tht doesn't diminish the satisfaction of ownership.

Great to see the positive post of the OP! Couldn't agree more.

@ 1stDuc1199 bear in mind this is an owners forum and we "need" to post something!!!. We do a bit of gushing but then like all humans we need something to bitch about ;)

Sure the bike is not perfect, I've also "bitched" a little about some small things, but at least for me they are minor and I have to seriously think about what the negatives are. At the same time I wouldn't give my 1199 up for anything!

second thoughts

i can assure you that nobody had more second thoughts then me. i sold my 2007 zx10r last year. i never wanted a bike again after i sold that. then the bug was getting at me. i was going to get a left over 2011 r1 then for a little more i was going to get the 2012 R1 because of the traction control. All in i would have been out the door for 15500. thats tax pipes and everything after market i wanted. then i was like should i could get an 1198 because they were going to come down in price (they didnt really). I forget the total price but i think it was 15500 also with nothing. at that point i was like i can get a brand new 1199 for 1500 more why not. Make a long story short i wound up getting the 1199 s abs. so i went from spending nothing (no more bikes) to 13000 all in for the 2011 r1 to 15500 all in 2012 r1 to 19000 base abs to 25k for the s abs. I can assure you there is nothing better out there. 99% of us wont be able to ride this to the limits (or any other bike) and during my 600 mile break in i was passed by gsxr cbr r 6 and they almost fell looking back at the bike. Its like driving a ferrari. I too was scared from the reviews and guess what ITS ALL SOMEONE ELSES OPINION we all have them. Some so called expert cant tell me how i can spend MY money and how much I will or wont like something. Bottom line make your own decision and enjoy.

I think a lot of folks had second thoughts but for every negative thing that was said (and 90% or more was before most people even rode the thing or took ownership) there was always somebody else who actually had theirs and had great things to say about it. Matter of fact just about everyone that recieved theirs gushed about it which made me feel comfortable. Yes it has some quirks but there is nothing out there on 2 wheels I would rather have.

nyandy, I noticed you are from the Newburgh area.....I live in Dutchess County across the bridge. PM me and maybe we can get together for a ride one day!

I agree with you 100%. I am 32 and was about to give the sport up. Ive been riding for 12 years, track days, some races and the bike I had before this was a 05 1000rr. It was a great handling bike but I lost the love to get out on my bike. I would walk right passed the 1000rr just to go out to my jeep and drive to work. I was about to give up when my loving and beautiful wife told me to look for another 999 (she remembered how happy that bike made me.) Then one day she started looking at the Ducati web site and suggested a 1199. Of course I didn't hesitate and found one ASAP, luckily I found my base 1199 with ABS....and this thing has brought me back from the dead. I am the same way I once was with my 01 GSXR 600 when I first started (not comparing the too.) Im out in the garage cleaning, tinkering...and riding the ever living sh!t out of this bike. Yes it is more bike then I will be able to ever ride, but damn its sure fun to act like Troy Bayliss testing this thing...haha. This bike is the reason I am riding every day again. The sound it makes, the compression it makes is amazing. There isnt another bike on the planet that I would rather have. And the funny part is im only on day 4 of owning it and already have 300 miles on it....I am dying to get to the 600 mile mark. Should be there by the end of the week. :)

similar story with me, have done several track days in the past, but an accident last year resulted in the total loss of my 2005 tuono (which i got, because my wife couldn't stand me with out a bike)...

i didn't hesitate to put a deposit on mine in february, after what i got 2nd thoughts... for that amount of money i could have got:
1. a 2005 tuono again (what i think is an excellent, versatile bike with a lot of character) for around 6 grand
2. a japanese .... to blast around in circles (2005 GSX-R 1000 or so) for 8 grand
3. a dirtbike to have fun with for another 5 grand

- all together .... ?!?!?!?!

but instead i got only one bike, but i was excited like before Christmas when i was a little boy (from feb. to delivery end of may, that's a damn long time) and every time i walk by the bike, i have to touch it and feel its soul. i want to wash it, put cool parts on it and when i ride, i feel really special, too. i have about 900 miles on it so far, just getting into the real feel of the handling, the tendency to go on a wheelie, the late braking.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH - it is the best purchase i ever made, zero regrets...

do it!

Seriously, how many riders of others bikes can say that? And we all agree and know just what you are saying.

What they said!!.........

Guys, just go out and buy one!
I have had Big Bang R1, BMWS1000RR, RSV4 APRC etc. The Tricolore wipes the floor of them all. Sure, it has tricky bits and pieces here and there! But this bike is awesome, hell you can steer it with yours knees dug into the tank its that light a feeling. Light but sure footed!

Go on, you know you really want too!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum coming from a 06 R1 LE. I currently have a deposit on a tricolore. Since I put my deposit down I've been reading every review and lurking through all forums that mention Panigale and like everyone here or most/some of you here debating on going forward with the purchase. Well as of July 6th, I've fully gone forward with no doubts on purchasing this beautiful machine. I got to test ride a S and.....OH EMM GEE!!!! The start up and just hearing it idle was music to my ears. Now the ride, I started off slow and with respect not knowing what to expect on the throttle, because once you disrespect this beast that's your ass. Long story short I'M IN LOVE! and can't wait for delivery on mine. I've told the dealership to wait for me before un-boxing the bike and I want to be there when they torque on the visor, don't want them over torquing the bolt. I've learned a lot on here just reading everyone's post. Thanks for all the helpful tips.
