Do you know what the springrate of the original springs in the Showa BPF is? I Thought it is 10.0N/m but I'm nor sure.

@rikkie07 I believe it is closer to a 95 N/m spring but have not measured the stock shock on a dyno or checked the spring rate. Ohlins spec card has 95 N/m as the default spring.

It looks like is close to 550 or so but that is with a tape measure not a specific tool and there was a little deviance in the tape measure so maybe closer to 545.

@B Topp make sure your chain tension is correct and verify....right height is separate from chain tension and does not affect it. Also make sure your sag is correct. These things have to be done in this order as one affects the other.

So I am getting ready to race a 959 in CCS this season. I have nix 30 carts up front + TTX GP Shock, both were fully serviced last month including spring change for forks (10 + 10.5, is what we discussed however the Öhlins spec sheet says 10, invoice for parts says 10.5).

I switched to flat linkage w/ adjustable ride height. I have CNC triples, I run SC1/2 tires only, 185 with out gear.

Any my question to you is I am basically going to be starting over with suspension settings, I will need to find a good baseline quickly (I have 4 days track time before first race hopefully it remains scheduled. Can you please take a look at this and let me know what you think?
Also if anyone has raced a 959 and has settings to share would be amazing, but I think few have here. I have reached out to some trioptions cup guys but most of them are on Ktech

Thanks in advance

@KarlKani Is it possible that whoever serviced your forks put one 10.0 and one 10.5 N/m spring in the forks to get a combined rate of 10.25 N/m? The spec cards just tell me what you have. It looks like the oil level was set higher than spec, which is fine. Have you set bike and rider sag? Are you using a 180/60 rear?

Btw, spec cards are from Ohlins for how the shock is sent from Ohlins, not necessarily what you get from a re-seller because based on the weight of the person ordering the re-seller may swap springs. These spec cards are not really for the general public.

What I need to know is what number is written on the spring and also need you to measure the length of the spring that way it is installed on the shock and the length of that shock. Remove the shock from the bike and be precise please.

Ok I have some more info for you
shock spring #: 01092-26/85 L4515
springs in forks are both 10.5 w/
8 turns of preload
comp 12 clicks
reb 7 clicks
25mm sag front and back
I am on a 180/60 SC2 rear (SC1 as it warms up)
I didnt have time to taker shock off as I was able to get on track this weekend, all in all it felt good. Going to flat linkage feels good, the front def feels stiffer. I also got rid of ABS, new pads. there was a lot for me to take in. I will need a couple more days and get to get a better feel.
thanks

@B Topp what is the spring rate on the rear shock? What is your weight without gear? What bike and sag numbers did you get? I need to know all that info specifically to tell you the length of the Ohlins shock with 15/41 gearing, 545 mm swingarm length.

@KarlKani thanks for the info, I'm surprised the bike feels good. You are too stiff in the front and too soft in the rear by quite a bit. Also rebound is too slow and you have too much preload, your sag confirms this.

The bike is probably running wide and packing....are you a demon breaker and slow to get to the throttle?

You likely need 10 N/m springs in both forks, start at 5 turns preload with 12 comp, 12 rebound -- we want bike sag to be about 25 mm and rider sag to be 40 mm at the front.

Shock I would start with a 95 N/m spring with 11 mm preload 12 clicks rebound, 14 compression and bike sag should be 10-12 mm and rider 30 mm.

Not sure of the spring rate, it is the OEM spring on the OEM Ohlins TTX shock, Bike is is 2016 Panigale R, 40mm front 30mm rear sag, I am 193 lbs with out gear.

@B Topp Ok the stock rear spring is too light and the front will work. Get a 01092 shock spring, 105 N/m rate, set the spring preload to 9.0 mm and the shock length to 311 mm, the linkage should be in the "F"lat position (stock).

Set the forks to to 415 mm from bottom of lower clamp to center of axle.

How much preload do you have on the fork right now? Should be close to 10 turns. Let me know....

RoadracerX - I really enjoyed reading this thread it is giving me some things to work on With my V4. Appreciate the set up info regarding the V4’s. I’ve Done a handful of track days basically bone stock except for SC2 slicks. Just recently upgraded to FGK cartridges And TTX rear shock. Looking forward to getting back out on the track with it. Your notes give me some things to think about. My current set up is as follows:
190 lbs w/gear
FGK front w/1.05 (stock height)
TTX 469 w/95 21040-31 (310 mm length, same as stock length)
Stock gearing

Obviously need to set sag, check ride heights and then interested to see if I feel like I need to move the rear shock length. I plan to use the new Pirelli 200/65 rear slick next time out.

Keep it coming!

@cafecorseduc if you plan to use the new Pirelli slicks I would suggest you get both front (125/70) and rear (200/65). This way the only change you need to make is to make the forks 2 mm shorter, which means measure where the forks are stock and then push the forks up through the clamps 2 mm more. On my V4R that went from 7 mm of gold tube showing to 9 mm.

Spring rates front and rear for your weight sounds ok, how is your bike and rider sag front and rear?

That setting above will work better on smooth, flowing tracks. If you go to bumpy tracks then change the shock to 309 mm, 95 N/m spring with 12 mm preload.

Lmk, which way you go....

One other thing shock length should be 312mm correct? and thats center to center at the mounting bolts?

Karl,

I just found a very good setup for me with front end feel
TTX shock at 312 and via a duc a bike adj dog bone added 5mm to the rear ride height and have my Ohlin forks above the triple to the gap at the cap at 8.75mm where a stock length equivalent is 6.5 to my Showas. The Ohlin fork install states 4mm which I found did not want to turn or drop in. I'm running 40mm front and 30mm rear sag with stock Rosso Corsa's 120/70 and 180/60 currently. At 175 lbs in street clothes I will try a 90 kg spring currently running an 80 with 13 preload to achieve the 30mm sag. fork reb 11 and comp 13, rear reb 14 and comp 15.

Good suggestion on the tires.
When you have daughters, hard to find good sag setting help! Probably a few weeks away from getting out to the track and sag tweaks!. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!
