I killed my dear 2012 1100S on a cold wet day when I should have stayed in bed. Thought I was going easy, but not easy enough, lost the front end and the bike wound up on top of me with the throttle pinned and it ran the bearings to death. Shi.....
Although I could barely get in and out of bed for a month I bought a V4S.
Both bikes ridden in race mode, the 1199 had a Termi/upmap. V4s completely stock.
First track day, could hardly get on/off.
Second track day, 700 miles in, a few impressions:
1 midrange power is better
2 seems like it has enough power and I shift at 11k, then realize I have 3K to go
3 power on abruptly is OK, power off abruptly (race mode)upsets the chassis more
4 brakes on/off touchy/violent, upsets the chassis, one finger is all you need
5 chicane transitions are lighter
6 stock tires are amazing, pretty close to the Dunlop slicks I had been using
7 keep your foot a little further from the shift lever or you will hit it, balk the engine, not shift, and wonder what the hell happened until you figure it out.
Otherwise, I feel right at home.
I need to work on brake and throttle smoothness. Might see about setting the EBC to allow more smoothness throttle off if I can't figure that out. Might see about some other brake pads that aren't so violent on/off.
I had thought about replacing the 1199 with another 1199/1299.
dThe V4 is a new experience, and I think overall for the better. And I haven't begun to explore the new electronics.
FWIW, I was running the OEM tires 32F, 28R, Hot. Any suggestions?
Thanks, paul
