Been experiencing some fairly heavy front end chatter when pushing into lower speed corners. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, have you found a fix?

Running the base 1199 with the Ohlins FGRT 200 series forks, and TTX shock. Fork clickers are on 12 R and 12 C. Current tires are, Dunlop UK N-tec front, and US N-tec rear. Front tire pressure @ 33 psi hot, rear @ 23 psi hot.

I know there are a million other variables to consider, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like a loose screw behind the clip ons!:D

Yes that's humor. Sorry I cant be constructive.

Most likely too much Low speed compression dampening. This is often the cause of chatter in low speed turns. Try to reduce the compression gradually until the chatter goes away. If that doesnt work check the oil height in the compression fork.

I don't know about those Dunlops, but on the track I run 28 or 29 cold front and 26/27 cold rear on my SPs...what's your cold temps?

Your suspension set up more sounds like the culprit though....if not your tire choice.

I had/ have also front end chatter. Base with nix30 and ttx rear. Using uk ntec

In the search for a cure, i found that the bearing in the steering steem was waynto loose, reduced the chatter a bit.

I have reduced the wheelbase, also gave some reduction in the chatter

I have the rear in F and ttx length is 306mm. Forks height is 3mm

An observation, I only have the chatter off brakes and before applying throttle. On the brakes into the corners, no chatter.

Sounds like there is mechanical play in the front end somewhere. check the wheels too!. Sounds dangerous.

I personally would not feel comfortable at high speed if the bike didn't behave almost 100% as expected. Remember you are dealing with 2 wheels, unlike a car that can have all kinds of weirdness and as long as the wheels are still attached, you have a chance. On a bike, your odds of being safe with mechanical problems goes down dramatically.

Wayyyyy too much air in the front, try 28 hot and all will be better. Maybe not good but better, SC1 front will fix everything.

Dunlop specs are 23/33 hot for those tires. Unless the UK tire is specd different than the US version. I run us version front and rear at that psi, zero chatter.

OP - I would try this question on the WERA or CCS racing forums or maybe call up to Boulder Motorsports, they've been running their 1199 Panigales on track for longer and harder than most in the US.

Don't care for what anyone says, got caught with 32 PSI hot in my front, bike was all wrong with chatter and nervous front. Dropped at 2 PSI increments to 26 and found 28 hot to be the best.

BTW, they were Pirellis, don't know squat about Dunlops

Thanks for all the input guys! I will try out these suggestions. From what I've been told, (aside from having loose parts) the main cause of front-end chatter is having too much front tire grip causing the front tire to "hop".

Bowhunter - I too only experience the chatter while off the brakes.
