Fuel cut

Hello, I hope this messages finds everyone doing well. I’ve only got about 350 miles on the new SFV4S, things are still a bit raw compared to other sprotbikes I have. I love the overall SFV4S experience however, there seems to be a very noticeable “fuel cut” at idle. Are there mapping programs I can use myself to correct / smooth this out - or - is this a visit to the dealership.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers

Can you please explain what you mean by fuel cut?

Yes, after the bike is fully warmed up, when rolling off throttle to tip into a corner and rolling back on for either maintenance throttle or opening the throttle more at apex, the engine feels jumpy or like it’s surging. Perhaps I’m simply more aware of the V4 compression compared to the Inline-4 of my Fireblade?

Try the full power dynamic engine setting. By getting rid of some of the smoothness Ducati attempts to add to the throttle with the smooth engine mapping it feels much more natural IMO.

I think the general consensus around here is that flashing the bike to get rid of the dip below 7k and/or to remove the throttle & torque limits drastically changes how the bike responds for the better. There's a few threads on here but a T-800 for about $320 will get you a performance map which will help immensely. The bike will start better, idle better and feel better all around. Second to that, you can buy what's called a Mtorque map to flash with the T-800 for an additional $200 or so which removes the throttle & torque limits. This will turn the bike into a total beast.

The cheapest option if you can handle some light DIY, is to order a set of throttle spacers or one of the throttle tubes designed to get rid of the slop and or free play in the throttle. This makes transitioning on to off the throttle much smoother in my experience.

I believe the rear cylinder is turned off deliberately to keep heat under control as it is in close proximity to the rider.
