Which set up is preferable?

Originally it went in thru the top of the case and had the entire circumference of the shift drum to read

2015 they moved it to the trans door to read only off the end of the drum

When the cases get hot the clearance increases to the point where the sensor can’t read in both set ups. But which style has the most failures?

Obviously it would be easier to blueprint the clearance with later style but with all the problems the new bikes are having should I use my old cases?

I run the non SL or RS sensor on my current setup with the stock drum and RS shift cover with a true strain gain (woolich) shifter zero problems but its not pretty and my mechanical skills probably not as good.

... zero problems
I never had a problem with my oem “top loader” type but I never sat in traffic or beat on it like one would at the track

Is the problem really the clearance changing from the heat or is that the sensors don’t work when they are hot?

The top of the case has got to be a hot spot compared to the later style where yours is
