Went to pay for my tag. When you buy a bike in florida now they do not take taxes out. Your on the hook for it at the DMV. Thats bad enough.

So I brought a thousand bucks cash knowing they might rail me.

The bill of sale had a MSRP of 18995 with 400 dollar transport fee and 200 dealer prep. I was not even charged this. It was just there to show the discount.

He then discounted the price to 18700 and knocked off the fees. Clearly shown on the bill of sale. Then my trade in knocked it down to a taxable amount of 12495. All clear as a bell on the Bill of sale.

DMV charged me tax on 19700!?! I told them I didnt pay that for the bike and that it was shown what was the selling price on the bill of sale. Nope!!!! Charged me more tax! Just because it was written on the invoice. Im like what are you going to do next tax me on the phone number?!

Complete ripoff the georgia dmv here is. Beware!

Im so pissed off. Cost me almost a thousand dollars to get my tag. They are a scam outfit. Cannot believe how bad they have become. I could have used the extra cash for my first service!

Oh well.

You must be stationed in king's Bay huh? I had to deal with them while I was down there for cars... Highly recommend moving to yulee FL if at all possible as that's where I'm going when I'm done in the shipyard in Norfolk va

I moved to kingsbay in 89. Folks. Dad was civil service. I keep getting sucked back in every time I leave. 40 now! Moved here in 9th grade.

d'oh! I knew it was going to be bad with a title like "Georgia dmv"..... sorry for your luck bro. Move to Jacksonville... That's basically south Georgia.

Haha, never understood how civilians could live in Kingsland, if you're still there when I come back we'll have to meet up for some riding... Always thought I would be the only panigale owner in those parts...

Stop whining. GA DMV charges on fair market value, not the actual sale price. If they didn't every ...... and his brother would be selling property for "...$1.00 and other considerations".
Just be thankful they did away with the ad valorem system last year or you'd be getting hit with $400+ ad valorem taxes every year for the next 4-5 years.

I have been hit with DMV *CALIFORNIA* Tax on all my bikes - painful. Tax is on sales price.

2 years of Georgia BS was enough for me.

The good news is that Seb charges peanuts for the first service Brother.

It wasn't on fair market value though. It was on the wrong amount on bill of sale.

Ok look at it like this.

Car is 35000 dollars. You negotiate with the dealer and get a 25k price. Well the dmv folks say your paying tax on 35000 dollars.

35k is not fair market value. Its msrp. I can understand if what u pay is below fair market value that u would have to pay tax on the fmv. Thats how the law works.

It does not work the way they charged me.

Damn right I'm gonna whine. Because its not right. No where does it say u pay on msrp always. They actually charged over that.

They also charged me on dealer prep and transport fees which i wasn't even charged on.

I will say your right on the new ad valorem. Yeah its better. Problem is the dealerships arent required to take sales tax or tag fees. So your on the hook when buying a bike.

1k out of pocket stings after buying a 20k bike. It is what it is. I dont have to like it.

Remember this lesson and when it comes time to vote let your people know as well.

Taxes are needed, but this type of onerous crap is out of control in our country. We have got to get our tax problem under control.

Hey now, don't pretend you know how You should spend Your money. The POTUS knows way better than you what your money should go to. Besides, without hard working guys like us, who finally position ourselves to be able to buy our dream bikes, millions of obese, unmotivated, unemployed people would have to set down their iPhone 6, PlayStation 5, and ice cream to go earn a living rather than collect benefits...

thats right without the dmv you would have never been able to buy your bike  you remember hey you didnt build that. you had help. the govt. 17trillion in debt they need more and more. yet they just took in record tax revenue and still want more . enough is enough.

The POTUS has nothing to do with vehicle taxes in GA.

As for "hard working guys like us", yes, I have a "dream bike". And I don't begrudge any benefits to the unemployed.
Unemployment insurance saved my ... and kept me out of bankruptcy court when I was out of work for a year and a half during the tech crash in 2000/2001.
And those unfortunate unemployed aren't exempt from paying taxes to maintain roads with the meager amounts of moneys they have - something you self-satisfied little snots should remember the next time you're out riding your "dream bikes".

unemployment insurance 1 is paid by your employer and not the taxpayer.
2 unemployment insurance wasnt a lifestyle in 2000/2001 nor was it 3 years.
3 when unemployment ran out you werent automatically put on disability insurance. (record numbers)
4 you went back to work jobs recovered.

and if i can afford my dream whatevers thats my business i work my ... off for it. you are on this earth a set amount of time. you are working till may for the govt. thats right if you were to pay what the govt needs you would work till may to get a pay check. they are down right stealing your time and property. Property can be mental can be work time or can be physical property or wealth. why should some guy (any politician) determine what YOU need. meanwhile they pass laws for you to follow and avoid them at all costs. look up what the clintons are doing to avoid the death tax that they campaigned for.

Im perfectly ok with paying tax on the correct amount . Them taking extra and shafting me is ridiculous.

Its not a lot no. But that money could have went toward my service.

Georgia is a republican state. Its as red as it gets. But its really the folk running this DMV. Im curious if all of them are like this.

The law is actually better for folks buying new vehicles. It encourages new vehicle purchase which is good for the economy. These folks just misunderstood the tax instructions.

I'm over it. As long as i live in kings-bay i have to deal with them. Sucks though!

Road taxes for a bike being calculated like a car is a little skewed IMO.

Bikes should be given a tax break compared to a full sized auto.

They're not road taxes per se (at least not in GA). It's a tax on value. Split between county and state. They do go mostly towards roads at county level since counties don't directly share in motor fuel taxes that the state takes in (it's my understanding the local county has some discretion as to what to use their portion on).

A better scheme would be to simply raise the state motor fuel tax. M/C operation would (at least in theory) be cheaper than autos that way.

Fuel taxes as much as they suck, are really the only fair way of taxing motorists for the use of the road. Those who drive the most will pay more and those who drive the least. It's not fair that someone who might only drive 500 miles a year on their $25,000 vehicle pay more in tax than someone doing 15,000 miles a year in their $2000 beater.

i wont get into the whole notion of taxation here, suffice to say that too many 'taxes' are a gov skam and unconstitutional, all designed to keep debt-slaves even more indebted (to the banks [the true owners of gov {and your Panis for those that are financing ;)}])....

back on topic, more or less: i pay a service to go to DMV on my behalf and deal with that gov mess -- they submit whatever i say and expedite accordingly... going to ANY gov office is an offense to both your humanity and at best a small indignity...
