Gerbings electric jacket liner and Panigale

I really want it for my commute on my Triumph Tiger. I use a Klim Traverse goretex jacket shell which is superb for the price but even with UA cold gear I still need about 3 or 4 layers on and it starts to get bulky which prevents a good head turn so I was thinking work shirt, snug fitting Gerbring liner and goretex she'll should sort me out.
One question I'll throw out there - I was going to get an adapter so I could plug liner straight into bikes 12V socket but Revzilla (and they say Gerbring as well) advise not to do this although they can't tell me why? Any reason not to do this?

I know Gerbing's sells an accessory plug (Gerbing's Heated Clothing // Accessories), but I have never owned a bike with a 12v socket so can't speak from experience. I bet some of the dudes on one of the BMW forums would know. Those GS guys seem to ride in everything. :) I can't imagine they would make and sell the plug and then advise against its use. Seems odd to me. I'd probably just do it and see how it goes and if you blow a fuse or have some other weird issues then install the wiring harness. A harness comes with every piece of gear they sell so the only cost is your time to put it on.

I got this Spidi H2OUT jacket for my K1300S for commuting, but have used it on my Pani for extremely cold commuting. Around 30 degrees for 20+ miuntes it is fine without any heat.

My Gerbing's liner is relatively older as it come with the same SAE connectors for the jacket, gloves and pigtail to controller. I understand the newer gear has more of an RCA type of connector? In any case, my old gear has never had a failure...(just cannot seem to f'ing the danged gloves!).

My hands don't get so cold but my core likes the heat. Cannot turn the temps higher than 50% or I feel like I'm roasting. Great product. 26 degrees on the outside and tropical on the inside. ;-)

Yeah, the new one is the coax style plug. Like this one - http://www.ascycles.com/images/products/Gerbing/CXCA.jpg

Just found out my dealer carries Powerlet gear. I am going out there this Sat for the first service so I will check out the Powerlet stuff side by side with the Gerbings and let you know what I find. I was told it takes the same coax plug so in theory I should be able to use the harness that is already installed on my bikes with the Powerlet stuff. I have also been told that it is much less bulky than the Gerbings (thin like under armour gear) and I may be able to wear the liners under my normal gloves (we'll see about that - Dainese gloves are really tight fitting).

Eyes On

Saw all this gear at Int Bike Show in DC this weekend and have to say this. It totally appears more like a touring / cruiser outfit than anything "sportbike" oriented. Looks well put together and rugged but nothing I would buy for outerwear. An inside the jacket heat gear item (vest or liner) keeps your core warm and can be obtained for alot less. (As previously noted) My 4 cents.

That's what I am looking to do (most likely) - replace the existing jacket liner I have now (I wear it under a REVIT and Dainese jacket) with the powerlet liner (if it seems less bulky, seems to work well and doesn't continually breakdown like my existing one). I definitely tend to agree on the target market. I was out in Middleburg this weekend and was the only non-cruiser in the parking lot with a Gerbings pigtail sticking out. Come to think of it, I was the only non-cruiser in the parking lot period. :)

Do you recommend a whole jacket or just the vest?

Actually depends on what you're wearing over it. Form fitting road leathers and full liner will probably be restrictive in the arms as the jacket liner I have has a slight hunting jacket-like quilt diamond stitching on the inside. A bit puffy, but not much.

It works great with my textile Joe Rocket armored jacket. I would not attempt to get my track leathers over it.

I imagine with a hot core provided by a vest and full thickness leather, there should be sufficient heat retention and minimal restriction in movement.

I do recall that the gauntlet gloves that came with the jacket were too bulky for my hands and lead to early fatigue. I really like minimal material between my hands and the controls. My Heroic SP-R Pro gloves plus the liner are plenty warm for me in almost any low temp situation.

Get used to that! We are total anomalies rolling around in the winter on these rockets.

Just yesterday I did a quick 100 mile loop and was the absolute only sport bike on the roads. Plenty of hogs and one sport tourer. And it was a balmy 42 degrees! forget about seeing anyone else in the low 30's and high 20's. It'll be just you and your Gerbing's!

I was the only dude not using my Gerbings too (I didn't think it was cold enough)! Probably also the only one who had his bike photographed by the coffee shop girl. :D

Do you have Powerlet or Gerbing's? I can't see how anybody can do much with the Gerbing's liners on under gloves. I can't even get most of my gloves on with the Gerbing's liners on much less make a fist once I cram my hand in there.

Just using my Gerbing's jacket liner. Gloves too thick and never tried liners.

My hands never get cold. Weird.

Funny how people are so different. Most of the time I don't even turn on the heated jacket liner, but my hands get cold really fast without the heated gloves in anything under 40 degrees for more than 20-30 mins.

I am the same way. My legs never get cold, a hoody and my armor is perfect for my upper body but I can't keep my hands warm to save my life. When I left the house today it was 32 degrees and the only cold thing on me when I got to work was my hands, painfully cold.

Yup, I'm the same way. This morning I may have had the liner on just a touch, but had the gloves between 3/4 and max. I may just not worry about getting the liner fixed and leave the y cable permanently mounted inside my winter jacket and only use the gloves. I am heading out to Ducpond this weekend and will check out the Powerlet stuff and report back. I know several people think that is a step up in comfort, bulkiness and functionality so I am looking forward to checking it out.

Sweet, I would be interested in hearing back. I have heard of other people talk about the Ducpond. Where is that at? I know it has to be in our general area.

Winchester, VA. It's about 60 miles from me (I'm in Vienna/Oakton). I usually make it an interesting ride out if you ever want to tag along. I'm going on Sat for her first service so hopefully an end to all this short shifting and puttering around is in sight. :)

I would love to but I already have plans heading down to Hampton on Saturday for a large biker party. You aren't far from me at all. I am in Woodbridge. We will have to meet up for a ride! You will like the difference after the first service. I put those 600 miles on in the first week. I couldn't get enough of riding, still can't for that matter :)

You were faster than me for sure. It took me about three weeks, but my excuse is that I got her the week before Xmas and it's been cold. :)

ok, no excuse is really valid.
