getting low beams to stay on when turning on high beams

I was told by a Ducati NA rep that it is a DOT issue in America. Apparently the lumen output with both on exceeds the DOT standards, with led lights. In Europe, he told me that both stay on when you put on the high beams. THE REASON YOU SEE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE SWITCHES IS BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE PROGRAMMED THROUGH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.

Nope: Even in Old Europe high and low beam toggles, and you get a ticket when caught riding constantly with high beams during the day.
And in Switzerland you get a ticket when NOT driving with low beam during the day as well. Crazy.

Wire: forget the switch. It's just an input device for the Dashboard that controls the headlights. Study the schematics that came with the users manual. You'll see the high and low beam relays on the upper left corner.

Ive done this with some diodes.....

I did 1199S headlight conversion using a OEM type plug
If your really good, you can do the splice for the diodes on the loom on the LH side fairing (easier to remove than front fairing)

Looking at the wiring diagram, the switch sends signal to cluster and the cluster switches High/Low beam. Why not recode the cluster to leave both lights on when switching to High beam? A lot cleaner than chopping up the harness. We do this all the time with cars.

have you done said recode? would be interesting solution/

I have on plenty of cars. The problem is getting hold of a scan tool or software that can access the coding of the cluster. The rest is easy, you can change a lot of functions and program what lights come on when and even make your LED lights brighter or dimmer. The factory setting on these lights is generally very low to extend life but, bump up the intensity and you can have really bright lights.

You would have to get Tuneboy to look into that for you.......

I'll stick with my diodes.

Heres a wiring mark-up for how to install the diodes. I had some 5watt diodes laying around so I used them, but 1watt/2watt should be enough.

If Iwas to do it again, I would install the diodes under the inner fairing cover on the left side direct under the left clip on. The headlight loom is located there.

I'm quite sure no one is using a cane and a German Shepard as a result.

People tend to notice things more readily when they're annoying and offensive as opposed to timid and unobtrusive.

I doubt that very much.

Saw a guy with a cane and a golden retriever though, he said it was exactly what happened to him, he couldn't remember if it was a Ducati though.

Wanted to add to the thread possibly useful info for somebody---I installed a Flash 2 Pass garage door opener today on my 2012 1199S Panigale. The transmitter splices in to the ground and hi-beam wire going into the headlight. The 1199 wiring diagram does show the above illustration but it does NOT show the other side of the clip, that actually attaches to the headlight assembly. On that side--the clip leading into the actual light---the two wires needed are black (ground) and yellow (high-beam). The light-side clip has 5 wires, but these 2 are the ones that will activate the Flash 2 Pass device. It works by flashing your hi-beams twice quickly, and opens the garage door by means of the partner receiver, spliced into the OE garage door button. Great idea, and I've installed my 2 openers on several bikes across a decade. I just remove and re-install when I sell a bike and acquire another.
