Another crash and it's time call it quits . Turn 11 high side at Phillip Island .
Far out I'm sore .

sorry about your off mate......hows the bike looking this time? battered and bruised like yourself I bet.....:(

Glad you ok, but it does suck that you arent racing anymore. Speedy recovery dude

Nothing hurts quite like a high speed high side. Glad you walked away relatively unscathed. For what it's worth, I took up racing vintage singles a few years ago. The speeds are more manageable and the offs hurt less than back in the days of racing moderns. ;)

Get well, then reassess. If you still feel as you do now, then don't feel down. Rather, get on with getting on! Best wishes from New Mexico, USA.

To much riding of old vintage stuff:rolleyes:

It tends to take the edge off the skills required to pilot these new machines:(

Nothing lasts forever. Better to have loved and lost than to never have. Glad you enjoyed it when you were able to. Reminds me of another inspirational Aussie that went out on top and was thankful to do it in one piece:

Thanks . TC 2 too much lean angle too much throttle .

I learned at Jennings GP in FL last weekend that TC2 doesn't prevent large slides and high sides. I had a huge slide coming out of turn 10 on the gas. Biggest slide yet on the 1199. Slowed down a second per lap after that and then put the bike away after one more session. Tire was starting to wear out despite not being at the indicators.

I totally respect your decision. If mini racing or Super Moto is available in your area, I highly recommend. A lot of fun, way less danger.

Chris

I can understand your pain. At 30 it wasn't an issue, however at 60 I would rather play with a little margin of safety. I hope it's posible as I have yet to get a knee down and would like to?

Sorry to hear that. Glad you are OK and only you know what most important to you and I am sure that there are other things in life that are more important to you like your health and family.

You found the limit! Just back off a smidge....Only joking, hope your ok. Best of luck

Thanks everyone . Bikes not too bad tank is ...... and the usual scratches but not bad for a high side .
After the last big crash I thought I would have another shot but the kids are only 2 and 6 so I feel I have to be responsible to the family as well .
I really like to masturbate as well so don't want to risk the use of my hands.;)

Definitely understandable to step back from the edge a bit. I made the same choice after spending 3 months on crutches in 2007, just went to track days only after that and really had just as much fun riding a bit further from the limit. I'm getting back into racing again this year, but on my Ninja 300 rather than the fast bike! I figure the odds of a highside are significantly reduced..... ;-)

Man I get the itch to race speedway all the time, because I have access to the best teacher one can get.

But my age and 7 year old daughter keep me in the canyons. Its not so bad, we have a blast and I don't need some stinkin trophy to have fun. :p

Get that bike fixed.

Sounds like an intact self-preservation instinct to me - good on ya. I remember the same from my racing days; you always instinctively feel the need to step away from it after every big one (especially the ones where they haul you off to ER in the meatwagon), but sooner or later the pain subsides, as does the aversion. And back you go for another bite of the apple. But sometimes those things leave you with permanent reminders, so the trick is to say when before you end up with too many of those!

Buddy of mine had a huge highside on a CBR250, broken shoulderblade, collarbone and vertebrae. I'll stick to trackdays and superbikes.

Mans got to have his priorities!!!!!

Not really, it makes you carry more speed into the corners and brake later since you don't have the power which works for the modern machines as well.:D

Hi mate,
I met you at PI on that day and was saddened to witness the aftermath of your stack. Your bike can be fixed but it takes a bit longer to repair your confidence when this happens. We are not there to break lap records, but to have fun chasing our mates and sometimes when we are pushing our limits, .... happens.
I hope your body recovers soon and you continue to ride.
Regards
Marty

Thanks Marty .
We were there getting ready for this season of racing and set up and building confidence after having a big off last year .
Felt really good on the bike and the bike was going awesome wish I had done what I was meant to and taken things a little slower .
Trying to prove things to yourself is sometimes the quickest way to go backwards .
I think we were discussing flat link ? After discussions with Craig and a few others he said Checa preferred Progressive link at PI .

If you think it's time to quit then it is. Motorcycling in general is like that. Your mind should be "all in" if you are going to ride. I raced many years ago and quit after a relatively short two years of sprint racing, but did endurance race for a couple of years after that. I missed it a little, but still had fun on the back roads running a spirited but safe pace.
