I had the heat shields installed yesterday and though I did not ride long and it was 74 degrees I must say that it doesn't look as bad as I thought. I will get used to it. Heat was never a make or break issue for me but I figured summer with 100+ days I better install it. It does improve the heat issue or non-issue depending on your position. It also moved the heat. Before the heat was worst under my right thigh. Now it's directly on the nuggets. Not as bad but the seat itself seems hotter. Also I feel more hear on my right ankle. They did order a CF version but it wouldn't work because I have slip ons and not the header. Wondering if everyone that installs this upgrade has made the same observance. Also had my dash replaced and it seems dimmer on the new dash and yes mileage starts over. How Mickey Mouse is that.

Mundman, what seat are you using? I hear people with stock seat feel the heat more than the race/comfort seat.

Thanks YoungR, I still haven't picked my 1199s yet, just wondering which seat is effected more by the heat.

Im not doing anything to put more heat on my nuts other than my girlfriends mouth. Think im gonna pass on the shield and I live In Phoenix.

I reported in another thread, but I'll repeat now that I have two more long days on my bike. As a refresher, I test rode a Panigale in December where I put 110 miles on it and ambient temp was low 70s. The heat was VERY noticeable - to the point where I though the seat felt as hot as the heated seat on my BMW turned up to high (no exaggeration).

I got my new bike four days ago with the heat shields installed. First of all, I really don't even notice them, but I can see where folks who did not have them would be more critical.

I have ridden mine three days now - mileages of 135, 250, and 205 on each ride. Temps were in the low to mid 70s. On the open road I feel zero heat. Going through small towns where I stop at a few lights and the engine temp gets up to 200 I feel a little heat, but still nothing like I felt on my test ride. But once back on the open road the heat goes away completely.

This is great news.... just as a point of reference... which seat are you using???

Thanks is for the write up.

Can someone who is riding in 100 degree heat give us a review when the weather gets up there!

I'm on the fence right now. It clearly must make a difference but a. want to see it in the flesh and b. want a test ride - I'm assuming they will fit to demo models so that's the way I get my proof!

Btw - when I rode the S1000RR yesterday it was reasonably hot when in traffic. Not uncomfortable but enough for me to note it.

I'll be installing them as soon as my dealer gets them.

What A ............

...................SHAME!

I applaud their initiative to fix the issue with the header cover being constructed the way it is, but personally despise this device covering the engine the way it does. The two toned colored appearance of this engine appealed to me alot upon its release and essentially what is happening is that they are creating an engine cover which includes a small piece for the exhaust. Two thumbs down and a snap! :(

I will gladly give back my oem metal piece for this device but hope I dont need to have them install the entire piece as part of their fix. Not sure how involved the process is or what actually bolts it onto the engine. Guess I will just take my chances with a wrapped header pipe, asbestos washers, and not conducting metal bolt to attach my carbon piece and hope for the best!

You have a tough choice there dont ya RSR? ;)

No hard decision. Dealer already knows to not install any of that ..... on the R when it shows up and just wrap the headers appropriately before delivery.

Done deal.

I spoke with my mechanic, and he said he will leave or install whichever shielding I want. So I will try the exhaust heat sheild and leave the heads exposed ( but hold onto the head heat shield , install them if it turns into an issue ). I'm with Gunny, that two tone head needs to be seen.

Stock on both bike I rode. I have a "comfort" seat on order.

I really believe some of you folks will soften your stance on it when you see it in person. It really is not that bad looking.

I don't like the look of carbon on carbon, so i think the CF heel guard gainst the plastic shield looks ok, a good contrast. I CF'd the brake line but not the whole swingarm for the same reason.

Are you saying you can live with the shield in black plastic? That's what I am struggling with after CFing all the stuff around it. Seems full termis is currently the only way to get your mitts on the new CF heat shield.
