Heat shield installed

The heat shields over the head are terrible looking and IMO don't do anything. Took mine off and threw them in the trash the day after I brought the bike home from the dealer. What was added/changed for the rear exhaust cover? Anyone have a "before" picture, never noticed a difference?

Thanks Chippy,
I just came back from the service center due to some problem with my right turn indicator. At the same time am complaining about the heat & they suggest me to install full exhaust system not even mention about the free installation of the heat shield.. will find out about it ASAP. Thanks again.

You don't need a full system to help with heat management. If you have a full system you get a free upgrade to a Carbon Fiber exhaust shield. I left the engine shields off as to let the engine heat dissipate easier.

Personally, I would get your dealer to process the recall for the heat shield (this is free to you) for a standard exhaust. Other options are to ceramic coat the exhaust, on my bike this combination with the rear heat shield helped a lot with reducing the amount of heat.

One further piece of advise, Silver/Polished Ceramic coating dissipates heat faster than black coated pipes. Only issue here is that you have to use aluminum cleaner as the heat on the pipes cooks the polish off.

One last point .. I do not believe the full system generates more heat than the stock exhaust and I have had both.

Hey guys, for those who got the upgraded heat shield from new (the shields, not necessarily the bike), do they smell funny when very hot?
If yes, is it only temporarily?

Hello.

With spring just around the corner, I would like to know how many people tried using the V2 of the CF shield (for full termis) and left the vertical cylinder head cover off.

I too am a fan of exposing it. I still have the V1 CF cover and I am contemplating on installing the V2 and remove the cylinder covers.

Thanks.

CF heat shield is available for standard exhaust now. You can find it in the carbon section on Ducati's web site.

Dumb question but what's involved in removing the cylinder head covers? On the kick stand side it looks like the shock has to be unbolted...

Loosen the rear subframe to swing it up which means tank removal. The rest is obvious
