i thought that i read somewhere here that Ducati was going to offer a carbon heat shield (like the one for the full Termi kit??) for stock exhausts....can anyone validate that?

thanks in advance,

I was told that by my service guy, but parts couldn't find it. I am going to try to validate it this week.

I'd be willing to bet an aftermarket supplier (maybe shifttech) or someone else will take the plastic head cover, copy it, heat insulate and offer in carbon fibre, so it actually won't look radically different than CF belt covers on the pre 1199 bikes.

That would be cool but Guido says to much heat on the loop. Didn't talk about the cyl cvrs.

hey guys,
here's my 2 cents from a different thread i posted to earlier today.. i got my heat shields installed earlier this week..

So i just got the heat shields installed on both sides of the engine only, NOT on the rear pipe that curls under the seat. AND i got my first heat rash on my right thigh. It seems like the aerodynamics of the shield are completely off even when going at speeds over 60mph. the shield has a vent hole for the hot air to escape and circles right into my thigh lol.. riding at air temperature of around 65F going around 60-70mph and hugging the tank with my legs made my thigh burn forcing me to put my leg out. hugging the tank creates an air pocket for the heat from the engine shield to get trapped in.. i did not have this issue without the shields, i felt the heat but it was spread out and riding at highway speeds hugging the tank i did not feel it at all..
my solution to this issue last night was to tie a bandanna around my jeans in the thigh region.. both me and my GF liked the look.. it may become a new fashion statement

Heat shield works but the subframe around it still gets blazing. Gripping the bike with legs is compulsory for control. Rizoma hole plugs near the knee gets blazing too. Need leather pants with insulation in the thighs and the knees or strap on some knee pads. Hey its a racing bike, designed for riding with race suit, haha.

Hi guys,
Am new to this site as well as limited knowledge on the bike. I have a 2013 Panigale. Would like to know how much the cost for the heat shield. The dealer rep suggest to install full exhaust system which includes bigger exhaust pipes (70mm), heat shields & ECU and of course will involve quite a huge amount of $$$. Anyone can give any idea about it? Does installing heat shield is good enough (especially for people who live in the middle east) & how much it cost. For the full termignoni exhaust system, how much the cost? Is there any effect on the bike performance, horsepower, etc.. (claimed by the dealer rep., it will give about 20+ horsepower which i doubt). Thank you in advance .

Thanks Chippy,
I just came back from the service center due to some problem with my right turn indicator. At the same time am complaining about the heat & they suggest me to install full exhaust system not even mention about the free installation of the heat shield.. will find out about it ASAP. Thanks again.

Full system is worse if anything heat wise......

I do know that Conquest Carbon (UK) are coming up with a carbon manifold heatshield next month (mid October) in the same pattern as the updated one.

Thanks is for the write up.

Can someone who is riding in 100 degree heat give us a review when the weather gets up there!

I'm on the fence right now. It clearly must make a difference but a. want to see it in the flesh and b. want a test ride - I'm assuming they will fit to demo models so that's the way I get my proof!

I have to chime in... I have a 2013 base with the stock heatshield. I've ridden in some high temps (95 ~ 98) in town with traffic and didn't notice any heat originating from the rear header at all. All the heat was coming from the radiators.

Hope this helps.

r/s head cover heat shield

Just my take but when I bought my bike last May my dealer installed the heat shields before I could test it without them. I live in Tucson Az and it gets 105 f in the summers and I took the r/s head cover/shield off and tested it for a month and I actually felt no major difference and possibly better flow and less seat heat. I am about to pull off the left side head cover too. :D

Interesting to hear all the different views. The test bike (S) I rode had the shields installed unknown to me (as it was my first exp with the 1999) plus the comfort seat - I rode for 25mins in traffic and some short freeway squirts and honestly didn't notice the heat at all. Given that I didn't know any different I thought the bike looked fine, I have however since seen the differences but will still be leaving the HShield/CSeat on when I first take delivery of the R until I have done a few track days then I might play around with it. I have a Busa for commuting so wont be doing much heavy traffic with the new R but will be interesting to see how it goes - side note the Busa is very hot on one side as well but these days I am so used to it it doesn't really bother me even in stinking hot days so I may lose the HS on the R eventually as well. Thanks for everyone's views always good to hear about the different viewpoints, and yes "Fragile" race suit on the track anyway :)
