So as I usually do as per not wanting to be screwed over I called Ducati NA about the heat shield issue. I asked if you have a full termi system will you be getting a carbon fiber heat shield. Here is the answer:
As of now we dont know. The new heat shield will not fit with a full termi system. We dont know if we will be making another one that will fit.
I said why not and the answer was and I quote the termi system technically is not a street legal product.
So then i said what about what is on checa's bike he said that could have been made by anybody and we dont know as of now what we are going to do.

Bottom line nothing is being done if you have a full termi system as of now so dont get rid of your old heat shield.

That's good to know, and I agree with you on not getting rid of the old shield cause I'm sure DNA will require the old one in exchange. For those of us whom have received our letters already I do believe that the last paragraph mentioning a provision will be made for those with a full termi system. Legally DNA does not have to provide a solution for the full termi, simply because the full system was not a part of the OEM equipment, they only offered the slip on's as part of the the Tricolore. Thanks bro for making that call and giving us a heads up!

All I can say Ducati - lol! "We don't know" - they started talking about this last fall for Chrissake! Anyway, I am one of select few who does not have an issue with the heat. Maybe cuz in the country I am going so fast (100+) I out run the heat, and my commute is only 20 min- 15 if in a hurry, I really don't care personally what they come up with. But I do emphasize with the riders that are whining, I mean that have genuine issues with the temps. (This again is an opinion, and is not meant to reflect the opinions of any forum member, myself included- if that makes any sense).

That's up for debate. My guess is since Ducati has the rights to the Termi slip on, headers and full systems as per Termignoni's website. Ducati has the legal responsibility of ensuring the Termi product is safe as far as the laws go in the USA. Whether its for racing or street riding. They will open themselves up for law suits or possibly class actions law suits which can be hefty and they know that. While some people have been burned, blistered or whatever the case maybe Ducati knows this and they know it will be a hell of a lot cheaper to design a new heatsheild for the full system than it would be to face a class action law suit. For argument sake lets say that 10500 panigale sold and approx 1/3 bought Full systems. It's hell of a lot cheaper to make a proper heat sheild for that 1/3 than to face a class action action suit. Remember that person that sued McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on her own self and won a million dollars? The Pani is a very hot engine and this will not just affect Ducati, my guess is it will affect anyone who makes an aftermarket exhaust system for this bike.

For the 2013 models they've changed the name 1199 Panigale to 1199 Inferno. So, now they are not obligated to do anything about it. The colors come in white hot and volcano red. However, my sources say that instead of ABS they are offering climate control, cooled grips and a comfort seat shaped like an ice cooler.

I don't appreciate your insensitivity to this serious issue. I think we need another thread, just in case.

I see your point, at the end of the day what's gonna Satisfy the customer and allow DNA to keep there shirts on.

Mark, Thanks for sharing the info. However, I am still puzzled what that new style full Termi heat shield is in the 2013 Ducati Performance catalog ?

EDIT : I posted pictures on the prior "heat shield thread".

I imagine we will know more as events transpire.

I appreciate your humor Bronch, goes with that awesome Pani you have.

ScrapperX, I think your right on the money. I don't want to see Ducati get sued and I personally would not participate in a class action, however I trust that DNA heed your advice.

Sure glad i didnt spend the 3k for a full system to keep my bike hot and uncovered by Ducati. Between my random stalls, coolant leak, cowl flying off, I have enough to worry about with my 2013 with less than 500 miles on it.....

Cali I dont know and checa has it on his bike too. I am only repeating what DNA told me just be careful sending in the one you have now till more info comes out. My stealership said 3 weeks

PS fantastic call on the clear brembro break lines. looks so hot yet very subtle with the rizoma next brake and clutch reservoir

Class action law suits..... You lot have to be careful over in the US, give too much trouble and the extreme bikes might become rest of the world only as the profit margins in selling 4-5000 bikes a year will not cover those costs and would be easier to just stop selling the model?

just for the record i only want the carbon fiber heat shield for looks. i think it looks fantastic on Checa's bike. I dont feel the bike is too hot nor would i join any lawsuit if there is one. I knew what i was buying.

+1 - I mean we went from hot bike, to bike's too hot, heat issue fixed, the fix sucks, to lawsuits, and finally "Ducati will stop selling the bike rather than fight lawsuits" - geeze-louise.

I think I'll sell my pani before the market gets saturated with everybody dumping them because they are too hot to ride and Ducati ceases production.

Me too! I just listed mine. Now, if I could only find something with a dry clutch.

Yeah, what I really want ideally is something with massive torque all through the rpm range (maybe an L twin?) with no flat spots, some type of trellis frame and a dry clutch that doesn't melt my pants to my leg when I ride it. Sure wish somebody would make something like that.
