Will do. It should be next weekend or so when I get the results. Is there anything significant about that particular amount of zinc and phosphorous?
EPA limits the amount that can go into an oil with API ratings. Usually its between 800-1000 that's allowed.

Typically you want higher ZDDP (Zinc & Phos) values as its the only additive in oils that provides true "Anti-Wear". Ideally between 1600-2200ppm .

It creates a glass like film on metal to metal contact under high heat and high pressure , Coating all metal parts. The Moly also helps reduce friction and the ester base oils clings to any metal parts. They all work together and you would ideally want an additive package that has all of the above .

If its government approved oil , it is not safer for your engine components compared to the above oils and is only "safer" for the "environment" , hence why they approve it with such low PPM , so it doesn't destroy cat converters.

see below for pics of what ZDDP does .

Your explanation of zinc (ZDDP) is correct. The 3 oils you’re discussing are all excellent with small differences. You’ve not mentioned Red Line 20w/60 Motorcycle oil. This could be the very best for those who ride in 100F ambient temperatures. For me, I prefer to change the oil between 500 and 1,000 miles. Everyone knows the bike runs better after an oil change. The days are sunnier, the sky is bluer, and I’m definitely more handsome. All well worth the cost of more frequent oil changes.

Will be switching to Maxima. Thanks for the tip!
I may be doing the same as well, after handling the Maxima oil physically on the bearing test, I really liked the way it performed. Neck and neck with redline , maybe a touch better with the maxima on wear scars , however the redline stayed cooler throughout the tests. I’m going to be sampling a virgin of this as well and it’s in line for used sample testing after I try the redline out first .

i dumped my 500mi 300v a week ago and sent to Blackstone.

I refilled with Redline...and now after about 500miles was gonna dump and refill again (to get out most of the remaining 300v). Then ill test the redline at 500mi, then again at 1000mi

of course will share data once i have it...

Oh and on that BMC filter! holy .... its a way better seal than OEM or the P08 filters! besides just letting .... through the media...it was also a terrible seal to boot!

So which is the best oil for the v4 panigale? My bike had 10W-50 Castor Power 1 Racing, because it was up in the north east where there are colder starts, but now in a tropical climate I am thinking to switch to the suggested 15W-50, the Panigale sticker says use "Shell Advanced oil only" near the oil cap.

read all of this thread, then read the @VYRUS oil thread....then make your own decision.

me personally? used 300v for 1500-2500 miles (usually right around 2k) for 30k Miles and popped a 1299 and 1199 motor...

then I learned that 300v after 500 miles shears to .... and is no longer a 50wt.

That shell oil, that is recommended, seems no different than when honda recommended repsol oil...they just went with the lowest cost oil provider that matched the specs they wanted/needed/mandated to have by epa.... There are much better oils...and if you drive the hell out of these motors and are near redline all the time..then youll need something better, or change it much much sooner...

In the end, i'm just getting my own damn data and will try to make best educated guess possible.

good luck

As of now 300v is best ONLY for the track & racing , can not be ran longer than 500 miles

The two top STREET oils that I have tested so far are Redline power sport 15/50 and maxima extra 15/50. Can’t go wrong with ether one.

The bmc fits perfect right? I agree as well.

I also have these three virgin samples tested with blackstone , the reason I didn’t post them up is because they were way off on PPM additive data. Based on the manufacturers cst numbers and their additives package numbers . Speediagnostics was within margin of error and blackstone was off by a lot .

Got down to the bottom of it and it’s due to blackstone not having equal equipment to measure certain sized microns when compared to speed diagnostics.

In short , blackstone will give you the data of increasing or decreasing wear over multiple tests seeing a trend , but the values will be incorrect and or missing data.

Speediagnostics will be more precise.

in the first 300-500 miles? i could not tell the difference...motor sounded and shifted the same...so far...
J
That’s good to hear , since 300v shift feeling to me was superb. If there no noticeable difference I’d say that’s a good thing. Also that the added moly didn’t have a negative effect on the clutch as well. I’ll be adding it to my bike next season .

ya zero issues with clutch...and it seemed to find neutral easier too...but i didn't mention that because it was hard to quantify my feelings haha...

For dry clutch what oil do you recommend? Not for racing use but something in between.

Ether Redline powersports 15w/50 or Maxima extra 15w/50.
I asked because oil doesn't affect clutch maybe possible another oil except from these two can have better performance and protection?

The only other factor you can have in an oil to use with a dry clutch is alot of added Moly to the oil. The redline has 100 ppm of moly and im pretty sure the Maxima has close to none , at that point you can go with car oils but honestly if you notice my chart i posted on wear testing , that some of the car oils didn't even perform as well as the redline or the maxima.

The key is running an oil that wont sheer or breakdown over heat cycles and time. Give redline or maxima a go and your already getting top tier performance from these oils , i cant see anything else being better. Id even at some point like to lab test the $40 a quart ducati stuff because i bet its very very similar to the redline.

Adding something like that's would be the same?

I've used this product before on a car , while it did provide a 400ppm jump in Moly , I wouldn't use it on a motorcycle or even a car any longer as it will mess with the total additive package of any oil & i don't like to use any oil additives any longer in my engines.

I simply used it as an experiment to see how it performed. While it performed well there is no need for it in this engine. Moly is anti friction , ZDDP is anti wear. If you want both of those in your engine which you certainly do to an extent , the redline is the oil for you as it comes equipped with both from the get go. Just change your oil every 1000-2000 miles and you are good to go.

There are probably more marketing reasons than technical ones which lead to that sticker being placed there.

I sent off a new sample for testing. We’ll see how the recommended oil tests.
